Did it just reboot out of the blue or did you try and reboot it yourself? What did you try and wipe? Are you familiar with the steps to flashing a rom? Do you have the Infected Rom on your sdcard still?

Also, what recovery do you have?

the phone rebooted itself, I tried to wipe everything but the SD card (following steps in the gingerbread root forum) I do show that the Infected ROM is still on SD card - I have clockworkmod for recovery - I have watched my bro flash roms, but would not say that I am super familiar with the process.

Also be patient when you boot the Rom for the first time. The infected Rom is a very large file, and it will take a while to build the dalvik cache on the first boot. I think Ocnbrze has waited over 30 minutes to boot with that rom.
Also have you tried any other roms?
The infected Rom is pretty old, and I believe it isn't being developed or supported anymore. I may be wrong.
