Root Evo 4g help

Hey guys.

I currently have

Supersonic EVTZ-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 2.10.0001
Radio: 2.15.00.11.19
OCT15 2010,12:07:07:00

so i rooted the phone when I first got it but kept the stock rom. My question is what needs to be updated? Sorry this has been beaten to death. Read most of the gingerbread sticky. I understand you cant root if you have already installed it. Any way to root then install it and keep it or are we still waiting on the rooted rom? That i can deal with if its the case. How about my boot loader version or my radio?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so i would start by reading this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/347533-official-gingerbread-2-3-rooted-evo-4g.html read all of the links inside it.
basically all you have to do is just flash a gingerbread rom and you are updated. it is not necessary to update your radios.

my suggestion is to try out mik2.45 here is the link:theMikMik.com • View topic - Download Links
check it out. it is gingerbread with elements of sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 which our evos will never get. it is super smooth and very stock looking.

Thanks for the quick response. Reading that now.

Are radio updates just for if your having problems? Kinda like bios updates?

it might help you with better signals and some people have reported better battery life. i saw no difference by updating my radios. i actully downgraded my pri to 1.77 and no issues so far.

If you don't want to go off the reservation and prefer a pure stock ROM that's rooted, xHausx at XDA has provided rooted versions of all of the OTAs the EVO has received, including the Gingerbread OTAs.

[ROM][STOCK] 4.24.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexed - xda-developers

That link also includes the latest radio firmwares should you decide to use them.

and as far as the stock ota. mew not to impressed with what htc and sprint has come up with. that update is nothing like it was hyped up to be. believe me mikg2.45 is the best rom to update to.

First thanks for the help guys. Its what makes forums awesome. I wanna make sure I have everything straight before I flash to the MIK you suggested.

New round of questions.

My recovery is ClockworkMod Recovery v2.6.0.1 . What if anything should I change this to?

Second is, i installed this odexed [ROM][STOCK] 4.24.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexed - xda-developers. I went ahead and did the radio update as well with the pri and wimax included.
Versions now report:
Android Version 2.3.3
Baseband Version 2.15.00.05.02
Kernel Version 2.6.35.10-gc0a661bhtc-kernel@and18-2 #1 Tue Jun 14 23:58:32
Build Number 4.24.651.1
PRI 2.15_003
PRL 01115
This appears correct no?

Third I can no longer hold the vol - + Power to get to the hboot screen? It simply boots incredibly faster then it used to straight into the phone. What gives.
EDIT Figured it out by restarting instead of powering down.

4th. hboot still reports HBOOT 2.10.0001 is this correct?

I flashed the radio upgrade first through recovery because it wasnt working in hboot even though in big red letters it says not to lol... eh...

5th and final question i didnt nandroid as I wanted to start from scratch then read on the firmware wiping out 4g. How do i check to see if I wiped my keys?

Thanks,
Sean

1.i would recommend amon ra 2.3 over clockwork mod. it is just a better recovery. you can get it here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html
2.everything looks good. looks like you are updated:)
3.yeah gingerbread added a fastboot feature. to turn it off go to settings/application/and uncheck fastboot.
4.hboot should still be hboot 2.10
5.to check your keys the easiest way is to download wimax rsa key checker from the market. it will tell you if you have it or not.

and make it a habit to always make a nandroid backup when making changes to your phone.

kk.

1. is done.
Just verified the new recovery.

Getting ready to flash the MIK. Have to register to their site to get the dl it looks like.

Couple questions about nandroid. Wheres the nandroid for dummies thread lol. Does it back up apps as well as all important phone files? Whats the easiest way to do it? Where does it save to? Is it like an image such as norton ghost would make of a computer? How would I reinstall the "image" Im guessing its all in the recovery somewhere.

Im checking my 4g keys now too fingers crossed.
EDIT Phew Congratulations your HTC EVO RSA key is present!

I owe you a beer sir.

a nandroid is a complete snapshot of your phone. so every app and settings on your phone will be backed in a nandroid. it is kind of like save a game at a certain point in time. if you messed up, you can always go back. also i would keep at least one nandroid backup on your computer. just in case something goes wrong with your wimax keys. you would make a nandroid and restore a nandroid through recovery.

edit:also when you make a nandroid amon ra keep the first three checked then also check wimax. the rest i would not backup.

I myself just switched to MikG 2.45 from stock and have been pleased with it so far. Was just offering up an option that wasn't "down the rabbit hole", so to speak.

hey. curious about swype. I'm loving the mik 4.5. everything is working great. I found the trace text in settings but it is nowhere as good.
