Root evo 4g power button issues?

hi im a noob so please bare with me and im not sure if im posting this in the right place or not but here it goes...i have a rooted evo 4g that was given to me for free and my goal is to flash that to boost mobile network using my samsung prevail as the donor. I use the samsung prevail everyday and it works fine rooted and everything but i was wondering if anyone could help me solve this strange issue with a evo 4g. The power button doesnt work and even if i take the battery out of it as soon as i put the battery back in it cuts on as if im holding the power button down. the strange thing is that the button works on the bootloader screen but will not work in recovery or during regular phone use. I thought that maybe the button is stuck but wouldnt that make the lock option screen come up repeatedly (as if someone were holding the power button and you would see reboot, power off, etc...)? i have took the evo apart and looked at the solder and it seems fine even clicks when i hit the button...any help would be very much appreciated thank you

So, just to be clear here, the power button only works when in the bootloader screen? Thats the only time?

What rom are you on? Are you s-on or s-off? What recovery do you have? I realize you said the power button does not function in recovery, but perhaps we can install a touch screen type recovery depending on your security status (s-on or s-off) :)
 
it almost seems as though its working in the bootloader screen but it kind of acts weird when i push it in like maybe its stuck on or double tapping because i feel like if i dont push down fast enough it will just select whatever option it lands on? not sure if that makes sense???the person who gave it to me said the power button did work for like a week or two after he got it then it just stopped but that it always just powered on when the battery was put in... is that normal?... also if it runs completely dead it cant be charged unless i take the battery out and charge it in the wall... oh also im on a mikg rom? s-on ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.2
 
Yeah, it is sounding like there is something funky going on with the button. The phone does not auto power on when the battery is inserted.
You said you took it apart to clean/inspect it. But perhaps a good blow with "air in a can" would help. Also not recommending this but I know they make an electronics cleaner in a can....don't know if that would do more harm than good tho:)
 
ok thanks i will try the electronics cleaner tomorrow when i can get to radio shack.Would rubbing alcohol work? i was wondering if there is a place i can buy just that switch? i am efficient with the soldering gun and i have fixed ipods and before i know its tedious but if all else failed i could use maybe a power app or widget? I noticed that most wont bring up the screen like when the power button is normally pressed and held
 
any idea how i can find a parts number or a similiar switch? if not i can live with using volume up key it works to open and i just use screen off app to lock it. not sure if these drain the battery but it works...thanks for all your help so far and any suggestions are very much appreciated. still kind of bothered by the fact it starts up by its self and even if i go to poweroff from the tweaks menu it automatically powers off and it did this pryor to rooting it.

Perhaps someone who has an Evo that doesn't work? Our I don't know if you're hip to buying a used one?
 
i think i bricked my evo because i tried using the app buttonremapper to use the volume key instead of the power and it worked the first time but i kept trying different combinations and now when i go to recovery it is a completely different recovery and color? and it wont let me use the search key as an enter button like my last recovery did. i also cant find the back up so am i screwed? or is there a way i can flash a different recovery that will let me use the soft keys so that i can use search as enter because my power button still only works in recovery menu.

what does it say at the bottom of the recovery screen? an app should be able to switch recoveries like that.
 
no i believe i flashed a different recovery or something by accident because i was trying to restore the phone to its state prior to using button remapper app and im pretty sure i messed up somewhere along the way. it says build RA-supersonic-2.3-HAUS MOD rev.A
im not sure what recovery i had before but it didnt look like this one and it let me use the search button as enter.

well you can just do it by accident. you would have had to download the recovery, rename it, and then move it to the sd card and then have the bootloader flash it. unless you already have renamed it and moved it to the card then it is possible to switch like that. but other wise there are only a few apps that can switch recovery for you.

not sure on how it works on the og evo, but have you tried twrp? it is now stable on the og evo and it has a full touch screen. i have it on my evo lte and it is awesome.
 
not sure if this makes a difference but before i did whatever i did it used to start up with a road runner and it said mik roms... now it just says android after the white htc screen and then goes straight to safe mode after android sign flashes a couple times
 
no i mean i definitely did something wrong not the app and i cant remember how i did it because im a new to this and i was following somebodys video because i wanted to try a different rom. also is there a thread on how i can properly flash that recovery?

so does your phone boot up at all? besides the app what did you do exactly?
 
Just for the record, smelkus mod recovery is touch screen and is based off of AmonRA.
The only thing is, I dont know if getdachewin is s-off or s-on.
I would think a fresh rom flash is in order after some sort of touch recovery such as TWRP or Smelkus. Agree?
 
yes it boots up but the startup is completely different. ok so i downloaded and installed the remap app and kept trying different combinations until one finally messed it up so that i couldnt turn it off. so i thought erasing the sd and trying to reflash the rom and recovery file would fix it. keep in mind i am a noob. so once i deleted the sd card i noticed i had atleast 3 or 4 other recoveries and flash img on my computer not to mention all the other crap i had downloaded because it took me so many different attempts to try to unlock and root it and im not sure if i completely did it yet bc it says unlocked but s-on
 
ok that makes more sense now.....lol

so you have a decent recovery then. it is just tweaked version of amon ra 2.3.

not exactly sure what you want to do now. if the rom works fine and you have recovery then you should be fine. i never used that app before so i can't be of much help there. the one that tube mentioned, quickboot, is a good app to use in exchange for not using the power button.
 
i just want the phone to boot up normally... i cant get out of safe mode and it doesnt show anything on my home just safe mode in the bottom left corner and it shows signal power etc at the top. so i basically just have a screen with a wallpaper on it

ok you can go into recovery and wipe only dalvik cache, cache and re-flash your rom. it will not erase any data or your settings.
