The only thing that keeps me from completely recommending the EPIC over the EVO to everyone is Samsung's track record on updates. It's by far the worst one out of the bunch. I'm REALLY happy with my EVO and pretty confident that it'll keep me going for 1-2 years. I'm also fairly sure that I'd bust that slide-out keyboard... I use my phones CONSTANTLY.

I'd recommend the EPIC over the EVO to any dev, power-user, or gamer who's still waiting for an upgrade and is hell-bent on a hardware keyboard.

Yeah because HTC and Moto are so much better :rolleyes:

Are we forgetting the GSM hero that still doesn't have 2.1? Or how about the moto cliq that still is on 1.5?

I have been calling up everywhere to see if they have the Evo but its sold out everywhere. They told me it would be a few weeks before it would become easily available. I've been looking at the epic and I'm starting to like it. If it had a kickstand and a 4.3" screen, I would be sold. Although Samsung's track record has been shaky, considering they are gonna sell a lot of these galaxy s phones all across the world, I don't think they would leave people in the dark. Ahhhhh!!!!!!! Which one should I get?????!!!!!!!

For the Specs alone, I would pick the Epic over the Evo.

But with Samsung's track record for extended support alone, I think I would go with the Evo. Samsung has dropped support on phones barely 2 years old, and haven't even resolved some issues with these phones.
They dropped support on the Moment and it was barely 7 months old! Hell, it took them 4 months to put out the first patch! (Evo has had how many already!?!?) and then another 3 months to release their second attempt to come up with a fix... and it didn't work so they gave up. F Samsung. I don't care if the Epic will suck my junk, I'm never buying another Samsung product!

And your saying this like HTC is any better.

If I recall, The moment got 2.1 BEFORE the HERO, despite the HERO being launched a full month AHEAD of the Moment.

Or how about the GSM Hero? Where's their updates?

Bottom line, unless you have a nexus one, all the updates suck, and complaining about something like FREE updates is childish and trivial at best.

I can only hope that HTC is better. I don't think they can be any worse.

If you take into consideration the fact that a few of the Moment's issues were highly critical to phone usage (upon release the aGPS didn't work, the data locked up, the bluetooth wouldn't pair well, the phone had terrible lag that would cause people to miss calls b/c the screen wouldn't turn on, the whole emergency calling issue, and who could forget the mis-calibrated battery meter?) then, at least in my opinion, they should have had it repaired WAAAAAAAY before 4 months.

If I recall, the Hero had announced their release of 2.1 would be a while before the Moment, but they had corruption issues that delayed it. But that's beside the point....

Anyways, let me be clear by saying that's not what I'm trying to argue here. It's not the Android updates that I am complaining about. It's the lack of support for problems with the phone. Like you, I say "so what if it took 7 months to get the next FREE update?" But IMO there's no excuse for not having a FIX for the phone within a reasonable amount of time. Especially if it cripples the purpose of having a smartphone.

You and I stood by and waited for months and months on end, waiting for the promises of what the phone could do (what we were told it could do at launch) to be fulfilled. It's just not acceptable IMO.

Great reasoning Critic. I agree 100% :)

But with the moment, it was(is?) a hardware flaw(s), and the only thing that can fix that is a mass recall. I really feel the SGS series will be different because it's Samsungs flagship, and their reputation is REALLY on the line here, we're talking MILLIONS MORE of these phones being in the wild. This is a phone that can make or break Samsungs smartphone reputation, unlike the instinct or moment, where they sold just a handful compared to what's out there.

If the SGS Series flops, or there are major issues that go uncorrected like with the moment, Samsungs smartphone days are over. And they know that. So something tells me they are putting all their chips on this series, and let's hope so.

Is it just me or did Samsung design the keyboard and styling of the Epic VERY closely to the electonic organizers of the 80's and early 90's... remember the Wizard and all those other bullshit sharp devices?

Yeah. I agree with you. Samsung is trying to gain market share and improve their reputation in the smartphone market. Their galaxy s series needs to succeed in order for them to achieve their goals. This isn't just some side project Sammy's doing to make a little cash on the side. These phones are going to land on a vast amount of carriers across the world. If the galaxy s series tanks, Sammy's days in the smartphone market will be over. They know they can't afford to mess this up.

I've been checking out the galaxy S forums... lot's of folks comparing the galaxy S to the desire... so not a perfect evo to galaxy S comparo but it's helpfull non the less.

Common themes seem to be:
-Most folks prefer sense to touchwiz although they say touchwiz is still very good
-Most say the UI on the sense devices feels a bit faster
-The night mode on the galaxy S camera appears to really eliminate/reduce the need for flash... samples have been impressive
-Galaxy S has better battery life
-Galaxy S screen is really impressive especially for video playback
-Game play on Galaxy S is impressive
-Galaxy S has some folks (not all) posting about severe GPS lag and inability to lock on to satellites, supposed to be a firmware update coming out to address this
-Most prefer the solid feel of the hardware on the desire
-Phone reception, call quality, speakerphone sounds to be similar between the SGS and Desire

I returned my Evo last night and am using a POS flip until the epic drops if that lets you know my choice.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my Evo for the 29 days I had it but I felt/feel that HTC didn't go the extra mile with it. This is coming from an HTC diehard. I've used only HTC phones for the past 3 years.

Finally, someone who feels like me. Aside from my Samsung Moment, my previous three phones were all HTC WinMo devices. But prepare to be called a troll b/c you didn't accept the EVO's flaws blindly.

lol don't worry I already know. I feel like people on this board have become the reason I refuse to go near apple products. Blind following and failing to admit when flaws are present.

So far, aside from the screen size(which is made up in quality) the Epic pretty much trumps on the Evo. As long as Samsung doesn't screw up with updates(which I honestly they won't since 2.2 is coming to the korean market in the next week) that is.

Everyone is entitled to their own choice. I am sticking with my EVO. My wife will get the EPIC, its all about who likes what. Good luck to everyone with whatever choice you make.

Let's hope that the Epic redeem Samsung's reputation. I'll probably get an Epic when my year is up, IF all complaints have been addressed. If not, I'll probably wait for the next gen phones that will be coming out shortly after June 4...

It is quite silly how bad fanboy fever is here.

The Evo is far from a perfect phone, but folks talk about it like it's the second coming of Jesus, and can do no wrong.

Mine isn't a perfect example, but IMO it's the best thing in Sprint's lineup right now. I've been a staunch HTC user for the last 4 years, and the one time I stray (Moment) I regretted it immediately. I wasn't about to go back to my TP2 (WM is too horrible), and I wasn't going to a "normal" phone, and I certainly am not leaving Sprint (my plan is too awesome), so the Evo was the natural choice.

But for all of it's flaws and issues, I still say the Evo is the best thing in Sprint's lineup..... and after multiple Samsung Excursions, no Samsung is worth the wait (IMHO). The Galaxy lineup is might be their flagship, but if they can't even get their lower tiered phones to work well (Moment, Rant, Instinct, etc etc), and they all have problems, then I don't want their Flagship cause all I predict is failboat.

I don't think anyone will be called a troll just because they took their EVO back. I seem to remember when you took yours back and no one had anything negative to say. If memory serves everyone was pretty nice.

AS for myself I'll be keeping my 4th EVO and buying a Samsung4g (off contract) just because I can afford it. :D

Ok. Here's a question for you guys. If the epic was a Motorola phone, would you guys get it? I'm just asking because a lot of you guys hate Samsung. If the Epic was made by motorola, would you take it over the Evo?

Actually, they did call her trollz etc in other threads. Most of the posts got deleted. And two or three people said the same about me because of expressing my concern with the evo's flaws before wanting to buy it.
