EVO availability for sprint employees and advantage club

So I'm a first-time poster, months-long lurker, and I first want to say that this thread -- not the site so much yet, but this particular thread -- has been my lighthouse in the storm of the excruciating, endless wait to get my hands on an Epic. I've been drooling over this thing since it was still but a wee rumor, and the folks on this thread have been great about posting and analyzing all the latest news and rumors. So thank you.

Here's my timeline: My sponsor (Dad) ordered the phone on Tuesday late afternoon and got the regular confirmation message (with the 6-digit order number) that evening. No more news until Friday at 10:30 AM, when he got an e-mail with the shipping reference number. I got so excited, but UPS tracking still (Saturday afternoon) says "Billing information received" with no prospective delivery date. As they say in France, le sigh.

What are my odds for a Monday delivery? Tuesday?

My three days are up after the initial order process with no email about shipping information. I am going to have to contact my sponsor now and see what the hold up is. It stinks because now it is Friday, my sponsor doesn't work until Monday, and after they check on my order, it may be next Friday before my Evo could even come.:(

Same exact position as you and it is disappointing. Maybe we'll have an update monday.

Depends... what method of shipping did you choose?
If standard, depends on where you live. The phones generally ship from Kentucky.

I have to say, I've had a few instances where I've had no UPS notification with the phone just showing up. But since you already received the billing info email, i'm guessing you're in the system.

i live in TX, don't know where these phones shipped from, but in the past all 5 of my phones showed up 4 working days after my Sponsor ordered them, except . . . the EVO  (Murphy's law). Per customer care it should be here Monday. i was looking fwd to playing w/ it this weekend, but end up working on the yard so i will have next weekend to root it, if a solution/method is available from XDA

I'm in TX, and my sponsor chose ground shipping. As of Sunday mid-morning, UPS is still saying "Billing Information Received." I guess I can officially scrub "patience" from my list of virtues.

Know the feeling... Unfortunately for my wife and son, my phone came early last week.. I can't tell you how many times my wife said, "Will you please quit tinkering with that THING and put that PHONE away!"

As for rooting, I followed the method on XDA-Developers for the new Hboot that's on our phones. [GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - xda-developers

It works! However, the method that the poster employed involves throwing on an older software version (temporarily) which will disable your camera. It can be resolved right away be flashing a newer ROM which has is based on the software that's currently on our phones (assuming that you will have the same build and software version as mine). Let me know if you need any help once you get your phone. I came from the Moment and was familiar with rooting that phone but this one took a little getting used to, especially the method for clearing the Dalvik and cache before flashing the ROM (I boot-looped my phone twice before I figured out on the Recovery menu how to clear it).

:D

Two questions.. My sponsor got my order submitted at 8:02 am on Wednesday. Haven't seen a shipping email yet. Any ideas when I can expect it to ship??

Second. I am upgrading from an Instinct and have no idea what "rooting" is for or how to do it. Is this something I will need to do when I receive my EVO? Thanks in advance!

welcome to forum...

Rooting is NOT needed by anyone!!! it is an option.
similar to jailbreaking on iphone.
it voids your warranty if sprint sees it.

Rooting = gives you access to your ROOT directory on the phone file system. So that you have full control over your phone. this DOES NOT change a thing with your phone. it lets you change and add things to your phone that the carrier does not want you to do.

Ditto on what Dan said... To add, it's not for the feint of heart as you can seriously damage your phone and turn it into an expensive paperweight, especially if you don't take the time to ready EVERYTHING you can and follow directions CAREFULLY.

The EVO out of the box is fine WITHOUT rooting but if you're like me, always tinkering with things to try and customize and optimize (you should have seen my cars).

READ READ READ and SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH for any and all questions. There are an abundance of tutorials and step-by-step Wikis out there that will explain the terminology, benefits and risks. If you do decide to "root" your phone, proceed with caution as Dan had said, it voids your warranty with Sprint and HTC.

what flipper says is true... but....

please dont let him scare you!
it is NOT hard!
it is NOT hard!

if you want to try this .. ROOTING....
do as Flipper says... read read read.. then read some more.
verify that the info is correct for the phone you have .. for the carrier you are on.

reading and verifying is not hard. just time consuming.

then follow the directions... word for word! do not assume anything!

99.9% of the bad situations have a way back .. to working.

(in a whispering mode)
the .01% that do brick.. = NO more working... dont boot.. dont do nothing... think about it..... how can they know what happened to a phone.. that dont do nothing?

Here is my time line: (all times PST)
11/2 - 8:38 got my invitation from my sponsor to buy my Evo online.
11/2 - 10:58 got my order confirmation from Spring saying "Your order request details have been submitted to your Sprint Employee Sponsor.
11/2 - 11:16 got the email from my sponsor saying "approved".
11/3 - 7:11 nothing yet, no email with my shipping information.

That was the last I heard was on the 3rd. I waited my 3 days to contact Sprint like the email says. But lucky me, the 3rd day was on a Friday, which meant my sponsor didn't work until today (Monday). So I called this #1-866-789-8292 and told the person my situation. He looked up my info and said that it was being shipped and he gave me my ups tracking #. I look up the # and it shows my Evo is supposed to be here sometime today.

I thought I was going to have to wait another week since none of the shipping information emails ever made it to me. Hope this helps anyone else who is in my situation. Just because you never got the shipping email doesn't mean it isn't coming. Also looks like mine started in Louisville, KY.

I'm thrilled for you, but I also admit I'm envious. A couple of questions: 1) In what state do you live (aka how far from KY)? 2) What day did the tracking info say it left the warehouse? My tracking # is useless, as all it has said for 4 days is "Billing information received." (Thanks, UPS! Your tracking system rocks.)

Had a similar situation myself, although my order was placed on Nov 4. at 4 am. As of earlier today I had not received anything besides the billing notice. Called the # and received tracking #. My sponsor received an email after I had made the phone call and my device shipped today w/ 2nd day air to California. Should have her in hand by wednesday and can't wait.

Tre, how did the root process go? I really want to but I wanted to play with my evo for a few days first. Can u say how it went and what root method you used? Also Ny advice besides what's already out there? I have been reading like everyone advice but until u actually start, some of the stuff just doesn't make total sense.

Not rooted yet... :(

Something about the new batch of EVOs we got that prevents unrEVOked from working. I am waiting for that to get cleared out.

Hey guys, first time poster / long time stalker here. So, here's my swac story... My sponsor submitted my order for 2 Epics (and 1 other crap phone for my wife's grandma) on Thursday morning, the 4th. I hadn't heard anything (no confirmation emails or anything) until today, the 10th, when I got tired of waiting and called Sprint to find out what my order status was. They said on the phone they couldn't find any record of an order when searching by my phone #, social, or the order id. So I started bugging my sponsor again to see if he can find out what's going on. I start telling him over IM about the wait and the call to Sprint and all, and he says "Check your email, I just forwarded emails to you." I check and find an order confirmation email and a shipment notification email with tracking numbers (emails dated 11/6). My sponsor has been sitting on them for 4 days!!

And it's funny that I started inquiring about the order today, because the UPS tracking info says the phones are all sitting at my front door right now! But I'm still stuck at work... :(

Not meaning to rub it in but I find it kind of funny... pure torture....

Glad you were able to root the phone, what ROM did you use? and does WiMAX still work?

The more I read the more scare I'm about rooting my EVO. I was all set to root it last night, but read about it might kill my WIMAX (G4) using the [GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - xda-developers  the main reason I got this phone was to be able to do G4 Hotspot

Just wanted to thank everyone for keeping this thread going and all the updates as to availability. Got mine today and am content. Question though, did everyone get hardware version 004? Mine is 003 and was just curious. Thanks in advance.
