Accessories EVo ebay Car Dock

a modified hd2 mount will put your phone into car-dock mode automatically, or you can just use the app for it manually.

I've seen videos of it being able to do that for the HD2, but isn't the "car-dock mode" just the Navigation app that's on the EVO? If so, the Navigation app doesn't go into landscape. And from what I understand, the EVO doesn't have a "car home" mode, like say for instance the Verizon Moto. Droid does, where it automatically goes into landscape.

I'm hoping they come out with something that'll put the phone in landscape mode while in a dock (if they even come out with the "EVO dock" that Sprint stated would be available at some point).

Thats what i was curious about, i heard this does anybody have a thread on what needs to be modified?

Or is there any news HTC is releasing one specifically for the Evo4 for this purpose?

If you use the HD2 dock for the EVO, the side clips need to be modified because the micro-usb port isn't in the same position as it is on the HD2 (due to the EVO having the mini-HDMI port).

There's another thread where someone posted a response from HTC that they don't have any information on a dock scheduled to be released for the EVO. Who knows if that's true, but if it is, maybe they scrapped the original idea to make a custom car dock for the EVO.

Just ordered this one:

1
Car Mount Holder Stand Cradle For HTC EVO 4G Sprint

Prefer flexible arm to the other model.. and for $6.50 shipped - hard to go wrong. Will review once I receive.

Thats basically the same one I got. Although I went with the "universal" one since I have a case and crap on my phone. Been using it for a few days now and have no problems at all. The gooseneck works well and holds the phone where I place it. And the suction cup has held well even down some pretty ugly roads in the subaru.

No complaints at all.

did you guys who ordered the first car mount in the OP ever receive it? still on the fence. a good video review would be nice :)

Everyone, please report back how vibration is while driving. I'm hesitant to order without knowing how much the phone will shake around in the dock while driving.

I got mine today. I ordered the base version:

Initial thoughts:

EDIT:
You'll need Froyo to get Google Navigation into landscape mode for the position the phone is in above.

Besides that flaw, the fit and finish is great.

The suction is made out of rubbery-plastic and holds really well.

Major design flaw. The way the phone is tilted horizontally in the picture above (with home/menu buttons on the left side), Google Maps does not switch into landscape mode in that position. The phone has to be rotated in the opposite direction (with the home/menu buttons on the right side), but that is NOT possible because the single tab that holds the phone into its place overlaps and presses on the lower volume button.

This leaves only on choice: the mount/clip has to be flipped, placing the single tab on the bottom. Then the entire phone's weight lies on that one tab which is sturdy but not designed to be used this way.

Besides that major flaw, the fit and finish is great.

I got mine today as well. I know what you mean about the flaw, but it's still in there very securely. I do still wish it was at the top though, like in their images, but like you said it smashes the volume buttons that way.

Are you able to position your EVO exactly how they have it in the image you posted? (mount standing up, EVO positioned horizontally)

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do that. I don't think it's possible, which is one of the biggest reason I bought it.

I didnt attach the holster on its stand...needed it for my motorcycle, so its bolted down on the bike. The single tab is secure enough but I dont know how it will react to high speeds and heat. It should be ok, but wish it worked as it was intended.

You updated your phone to the "official" FROYO or a customized FROYO?
I installed the Froyo update that HTC had on their website and later pulled. HTC now claims that it isn't the build that Sprint will push in the OTA push in spite of the versioning matching exactly what Sprint has in all of their support docs online.

Time will tell if this is the same as what pushes out and if not I'll update again. I'm not worried about it. I'm loving it so far.

Thanks for the info. Until I read through some other threads last night, I didn't realize that an official update had been released for a brief period of time before being pulled.

I wouldn't' call it official, but it was from HTC anyways.
