Help Evo fried my laptop

I really do still think that your EVO should have suffered some sort of (catastrophic?) damage as well if it was the cable.

And you should make sure you spell impossible correct when you write to the NY Times or whoever.

LOL thanks for the advice I'll be sure to use a spell check.

The evo is acting funny-randon programs coming up (gps contacts internet and pandora) random calls made; etc etc these were mentioned in another post. I really can't specu.late on the battery life it last about 4 hours less than my wifes phone but that could be due to me playing games on it.

I was thinking about it last night and if you rememberI said the cable and evo were plugged in and I was using it. I was playing a robo wars game in landscape mode with it plugged in and wonder if that could of had something to do with the damage

One other thing sounds like you work for a place like bestbuy. All the techs are required to have is an A+ Certification which I've had for oh about 8 years :)
"Point of Sales" = computer systems used in businesses to track sales, inventory, etc. Best Buy has PoS software running on their touch screens at the registers, customer service desk, etc., although I'm sure they have their own internal PoS department. The company I work for deals primarily with restaurants, pizza chains and bars. We build, install and offer 24/7 support of our systems.

I have an A+ Certificate myself, but that's been years ago. I don't know if I even learned anything. It seemed pretty basic at the time. I'm sure it's different now. Like I said, support isn't really my department, although I dabble with troubleshooting from time to time. The guys in our support department are far more advanced. They all have IT related degrees. I take them at their word.

What I'm kind of thinking is that even if your EVO sent out its maximum possible surge, and even if it was exacerbated by a faulty cable, the fault still lies with your laptop, because it should be built to withstand far more than the EVO can throw at it.

So is it possible?.. If you have a faulty laptop, a faulty cable and a USB device that sends out a surge, then I would suppose it is. Perhaps that's what happened to the first person that you linked, although that person never posted their resolution.

The second link you posted, the problem turned out to be related to the power supply. Unless you think that somehow the USB device somehow fried the motherboard and power supply.

I'm not sure how much of the thread you actually read; but if you noticed I had two laptops (same model) plugged in to the same UPS. The other laptop I am currently on. The only difference between the two laptops was the evo was plugged in. 2 seconds later the laptop shutsdown. The other laptop which was also being used at that time is still working; again I'm actually typing this on it.

You should have had this problem fixed a week ago, because you are the ultimate TOOL!! Raising the bet to $1500 that HTC still hasn't replaced your laptop!! Good luck Craftsman! LAPAY

You should read the rules. But I will make a wager. 2k saying the southbridge is fried.

If the southbridge is fried proves I'm right. Laptop is in the mail now to get repaired.

I guess my previous warning wasn't enough.

I will repeat this again for everyone's benefit, we will not tolerate disrespectful posting or personal attacks on this site. If you cannot control yourself then you will be invited to leave.
