Help Evo gets hot and shuts down...Anyone else?

My Evo is having a problem where after a while of using it maybe 5-7 minutes of using an app, it will shut off and restart. Doesn't shut down and restart, just shuts off. I took it to sprint today, and they wiped it and reloaded the software and put 2.3 back on and when I was reloading all my apps, sure enough, it did it again. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue. What resolved it. I only have 20 days left on my 1 year warranty, so I need to resolve it quickly.

Could be an app. Which one are you using?

Mine did the same thing awhile back. At first it was random reboots, then not so random, then I couldnt use the GPS or most any other app for more then 5 min without a reboot. I was not rooted at the time. I had Black Tie insurance from BB (lol) so I instead took walked into a Sprint service store and they told me within 15 minutes the "on board memory" was bad and he could have me another phone by noon the next day even though I didnt have insurance through them. Worth a try! Did cost me $35 for shipping or something, idc, next day phone :)

yep same thing for me. my evo was rooted and i would get random reboots more and more frequently. so i unrooted my phone and it also began to reboot randomly. took it in and showed the sprint rep there and they just ordered me a refurbished one.

Its a heat issue. When the device gets to hot it will do one of two things. It will reboot and stay off. OR it will reboot and power cycle repeatidly.
Check my sig file i wrote a 3 part article on this a while back and for some it has helped them. Some are battery related, some are software related, others are just a hardware issue.
However there is a testing procedure to find this out and Sprint Service Centers have a guideline to test this and send it to HTC for replacement. If they did not follow the guidelines i would take it back and complian, nicely, or take it to another location.

I took it into sprint and they looked and said my phone was rooted. i thought i unrooted it but still showed s-off. How do i get it completely back to out of the box state.

If I were you I might take it in to a different Sprint store, after you have un-rooted. Sounds like that Sprint store doesn't look to kindly at rooted phones. My neighbor took his rooted phone in for repair, they saw it was rooted, told him they were not going to touch it. I told him to take it to another sprint store once he got back to stock. The rep. At the different sprint store said there was a note on his account about it being rooted, and they would not repair it or exchange it because he had voided the warranty by rooting it. Some sprint reps. are tools. Lol. I would try another store, to be on the safe side.

If its listed on your account as being rooted, other repair stores will know! The Sprint reps look at the last comments made on your account when you take it in for repair.

Of course all sprint stores would know, IF they noted his account. I only mentioned the story about by neighbor being refused a repair or replacement, so he would not be surprised if they refused to help him. He has nothing to lose by going into a different sprint store, if they didn't note his account he's good to go. Some sprint stores are hardcore against rooting. If he goes back to the original store, they know he was rooted and will probably blame his EVO issues on that. If they haven't already noted his account, they sure will at that point. Why risk it?
If my neighbor and I knew they noted his account, we certainly would not of bothered taking it in to a different sprint store. They don't tell you they are placing a note on your account, sneaky huh? Lol
