Root Evo laggy as heck with two different roms so far.

I just rooted my phone, and of course, started trying different roms. The first one was MIK3D. It was laggy as heck, and had some other issues I wasn't too fond of. So I tried the Synergy-Kingdom | NIGHTLYS | 2.3.3 | SENSE 3.0 ROM. This one is even laggier, I can hardly do anything on my phone without sense crashing. It takes at least 45 seconds for the phone to "wake up", and it takes forever for apps to load. is this my phone? Or am I just picking the wrong ROMs?

anytime you get that with force closures and lagginess try and wiping dalvk cache and cache. should work most of the times. also try overclocking your phone as well.

I wiped both before installing both roms, I'll give it another shot though. Thanks.

If you only wiped those two before flashing a new rom, that may be your problem. Always wipe the following between flashes (I do each twice, in Amon Ra):

factory reset/wipe data
cache
dalvik cache
system
boot
sd android secure

Also, give MikG 2.45 a shot if you still don't like either of those roms you tried, it's extremely solid and fast.

Hmm, I didn't do the factory reset, the system, boot, or SD. If I do that now, will I need to re-load the rom? I like the current rom (although I wish it had the nifty battery indicator that the MIK3D ROM did.) I Liked the MIK3D, but there were a few quirks that just made me want to go back to stock, so I decided to try something different. I am kinda looking for a sense 3.0 Rom tbh.

yes, if you wipe all those you will need to re-flash the ROM. But I think it is worth it to take the extra hour or so to re-setup everything -- so many issues are often caused by incomplete wipes leaving leftovers from previous roms.

Oh, and make sure you're wiping "sd android secure" NOT "sd card." You don't want to wipe your entire card. :)

And for Sense 3.0, I still think Mik3D Beta1 is the best out of those right now. (Although I'm personally back on MikG 2.45 for now for the ridiculously rock-solid reliability).

Oh, and make sure you give a ROM time to settle.

umm, crap, I accidentally wiped the entire card... I have a nandroid of my original rom though, so nothing was lost. So, what do I do now? I have the nandroid (with wimax keys) and my wife also has an Evo 4G.


EDIT: OK, so I just re flashed the latest ROM I had on my phone, and it seems to be working fine. Are my Wimax keys stored on the SD card? If so, is there any way to get them, and all my pics/videos back on the phone from my Nanadroid backup without flashing the nandroid, then re flashing the rom of my choice?

i always backup my card from time to time on my computer. that way they are in a safe place for errors like this. you can try and use this:Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download to get them back. but most likely those are lost as nandroids do not save sd card content.

as far as your wimax keys will depend on what recovery you have? if it is clockwork mod then is automatically save them. if it is amon ra2.3 then you have to manually select wimax to back them up.
 
Ugh, nothing is working it's still lagging, forced closures, and sense lockups. I have two more roms I may try, if they lag, then it's back to stock for me.

Flash MikG 2.5 after a full wipe. If you have even a hint of lag with that, there is something screwy with your phone. :)

Also, I'll repeat asking you to make sure you follow this guide to the letter when you first set up -- not letting a ROM settle in can be an issue too.
(I usually skip steps #15 & #16 but follow the rest).
 
First of all are you running a diff kernel ? This is the diff maker a lot of the time ive noticed. A lot of the stock kernels will not allow you to overclock which will make the rom lag terribly. Flash golden monkey rom and overclock to about 1190 ... but no higher. Then dload the supercharger script ( settings 1 & 5 for good balance ) and report back. You should see a lot of improvement. Let us know!

Hmmm, I'm running the stock kernels, I'll give that a shot.
