I had rooted my EVO with unrevoked 3 the newest version, everything went smoothly when I rooted my phone, no problems. But this is where I need your help. I went to the reboot menu and clicked on recovery, then I clicked on advanced and then clicked on Fix permissions. It just started running and then it was complete in 5mins. I rebooted my phone and I didn

well the evo just got the official gingerbread update from htc/sprint. the current software version is 4.24. if you unroot and accept the ota then you will not be able to root again, if you change your mind. with the new update comes a new bootloader which right now is not rootable yet.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!
what is you hboot? do you have s-off?
the h-boot is the stock version i didnt not use an custom roms i just used straight unrevoked 3 the new one, yes s-is off

ok so what is your hboot now? do you have 2.16 or 2.10? you can check by going to bootloader (power off then press and hold power+vol down) can you get to recovery?

you have s-off that is good.

im having trouble with my root i still have s-off and i used unrevoked3 to root my phone, none of the root apps are working they say i don't have root permission

load the app you can allow access to the rooted apps that way. also do you have a custom recovery still? and do you know what your hboot is?

ok my hboot is 2.10 and by custom recovery you mean i still have the option to click the recovery button then yes i still can do that, sorry for the lag responce im useing my phone for internet tether PDA net

ok so i was thinking that you accepted the gingerbread ota but you have s-off and the superuser app. try and go back to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and see if that helps. also you can try and flash a your current rom or try another rom and see if that helps. you did not loose root as long as you have a custom recovery and a s-off. if you have atleast those two then all is good.

by wipe the caches is there any data there that i should back up? by chance did you read the post before on how i got in to this mess? what does the Fix permissions button do?

well usually if you install something and it fc's on you, you can then try fixing permissions and it clears up the fc's. it will not make you loose root. you have to flash or run a program to loose root.

and you will not loose data by wiping the caches but if you wipe data, then yes data will be lost. just make sure that you use titanium backup to backup your aps and that all of your contacts are linked to your google account.

ok ill try that, if that doesnt work what would be the next step to take? and what is reflash and do u keep it in the zip/rar format for the phone to read it?

ok so flashing is when you install a rom, mod, or theme. so you can try and re-flash whatever rom you are on. you can go and get roms on the rom/kernel sticky of this fourm. or go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html. you can flash the latest ota 4.24 and if you do download the odexed version.

and whatever you do do not unzip those files. also might i suggest that you read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. there is a section on after rooting that could be a big help for you. that guide saved me more times then i can count.

yeah im still new to the putting my own roms on to the phone, the long short of it is you get the rom on the sd card take it in to recovery and pick it up from there? ill take a look at the guide tomorrow, how do i find out what roms the phone is running on when unrevoked3 did most the rooting for me?

yep you got the order down in a nutshell. but read the guide for sure.

ok so unrevoked installs the stock but rooted rom of whatever the software version of the ota at the time you rooted your phone. before it was gingerbread the previous ota was froyo 2.2 with the software version of 3.70. the latest gingerbread 2.3.3 ota has a software version of 4.24. you can check your version of your by going to setting/about phone/and software.

if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

ok i when to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and that didnt help. is there anything i should try before i i try refashing or putting other roms on the evo? do i have to wipe date before i do this?

ok so lets try this download this file:supersonic_4.24.651.1_odexed-signed2.zip. it is the latest ota. since your are just on the stock rom you do not need to wipe data. however, i would wipe dalvik cache and cache again before flashing. that way everything is saved you will not loose anything and there is no need to use titanium backup.

if that does not work then we need to do wipe again and this time include data and re-flash the rom.

Ok i have the zip folder downloaded im going to put it in my SD card. So when i go into recovory i just click on sd card and look of the file and install it? So what are your thoughts on why the 4g and wifi are not working if the phone is just unrooted

well according to you you still have s-off. and i think your hboot did not change, but i could be wrong (hopefully) and if you have a custom recovery then you are mostly rooted. and fixing permisiions would not have unrooted you. so you should be good to go by just flashing the update.

idk wat im doing wrong,
when i was clearing the dalvik cache it popped up this E: cant mount/dev/block/mmcblkop2
when i clicked on apply SD card update.zip it said (no such file or directory)
so i when to install zip from SD card then choose a zip and i picked supersonic.....
then it gave me two chooses Meta Inf/ with didn't do anything it was just a bunch of folders in folders that lead to nothing
so the 2nd option was system i clicked on it and it has a list like this:
app/
bin/
fonts/
framework/
lib/
media/
tts/
urs/
xbin/
i didnt click on any of them cuz i didnt know which one or any did i need
