Help Evo my evo kills batteries?

I bought my Evo off craigslist with a root on it and i couldn't activate so i unrooted it. While booting up the battery died so i tried a few more times, the battery became unresponsive, wouldn't let me charge it or would it turn on my phone for even a second. I went to sprint and he put in a new battery and it worked. He charged me $30 for a new battery he picked up off the floor... I used that battery for a few days. Today i had my phone plugged in charging and turned on and next thing i know its dead and not charging anymore... Is this just a freak accident or a common problem? What should i do? Is this something that happened because of the root?

Your problem is not root related. does sound a hardware issue however. You could try to replace the battery yet again and see if this solves your problem or if it does the same thing. (Could be why original owner sold it) Also change the plug it could be a bad plug or wire. Try charging from the computer with a new usb cable see if that solves the issue.

My motto is always start with what is cheapest to replace and gradually move up if the problem still persist. However I am thinking its a cable issue.

Here's my theory: my previous phone was a rumor touch with the same charger as the Evo and i never had a problem with my rumor and thats the charger i was using. However both batteries did die while plugged into the rumor charger not the computer. So that could be the problem.
