Root EVO or ROM issue?

I know I should take this up on the ROM's forums, but they're practically dead, so...

I've used Cyanogen Mod on my EVO since day 1, recently I had to do a factory reset because of a network issue (EVO lost 3G connectivity, had to update the profile) Now when I try to install CM it either (1) installs fine but lacks the "Phone" and "contacts" apps (though incomming calls still showed up - just no way to PLACE calls) or (2) worked fine till I installed Google Apps, then would boot up and in ~5 seconds return to the "booting Cyanogen mod" screen a few seconds, and return to 'fresh boot' status...

Also on the Stock Sprint ROM, WiFi fails to connect. it sees the network but always times out on "acquiring IP address"

While I managed to get it to work on a 3rd ROM (dont remember the name, but it's Sprint's rom with Sense ripped out) I've seen nothing about other ppl having problems with CM, and prior to the network update I didn't either, so I'm tempted to think it's my phone, not CM7 that's doing it...

I'm gonna go ahead and say its probably a wipe issue. A factory reset isnt enough to switch ROMS.

Redownload cm in case it was a bad download and then boot into recovery and wipe everything except for SD card.

Following that flash your ROM/kernel and you should be good to go

If you had made a nandroid before going to a sense rom to update prl and profile you could have restored it and been fine as well.

Also, if you have clockworkmod recovery it is recommended that you switch to amon ra. Make sure to wipe dalvik cache found in advanced if you do stick with cwm

I did a wipe, then a "cache wipe" is that the Dalvic Cache or did I miss an option?

I thought that restoring a nandroid would restore the network files too >.< wish I'd known, I'd have just backed up, flashed sprint, updated, and restored... good to know for the future at least...

AOSP and Sense based roms are so different that everything should be wiped in between flashes. Bits and pieces from one ROM that get left behind lead to issues like you are having.

Make sure you are wiping each of the following at LEAST once each:
Data
System
Boot (if available in your recovery)
Cache
Dalvik Cache (no, its not the same as the cache you just wiped)
SD-ext (if the SD card is partitioned)
SD-android secure

If you have Amon Ra as your recovery you can flash a wiping script like superwipe to ensure that these things get wiped properly.

+1 on that! wipe, wipe, wipe. I like to wipe. I wipe 3 times and no issues.
(mama taught me that);)
Amon Ra is an excellent recovery as Rx said.
Even the AmonRa based smelkus recovery is nice.
There is a link to that in my sig. in my first post if you so desire. (oh wait a minute, this is my first post)

Thanks for the info, I'll try this next time I wipe, at the moment things are working so I dont want to risk it *awkward laugh* (Will probably do it when CM releases the ICS update for EVO)

No FFC ( front facing camera--I never use it so no big deal for me)

Also no netflix or hulu

You also need to use the app listed in the ROMS OP for video recording to work

Never record video (just still pics works right?), never use front camera (too low-res for pics and I dont video-call) and not subscribed to Netflix/Hulu.

Looks like it's all good :)
