Help Evo Rebooting on its own

Starting yesterday every time I use Sprint navigation my evo reboots. :/

I would have the very occasional random reboot but it wasn't a big deal to me. Since I use sprint nav a lot it is pretty annoying now.

I had reboots when using the camera. I've found that disabling GPS while using the camera fixed it. I suspect it might be a similar issue with the GPS in many (though not all) of your cases as well.

No other GPS app causes it on mine.

Mine is doing it so much now it is almost unusable. Gps is always off, have never touched always on data. Does it most often when watching u-tube, tv.com, playing any tower defense game, dog catcher, and most recently when using app brain. Have hard reset last night and now it is just as bad. Am working with HTC to try to get the matter resolved. Don't have a task killer. Never rebooted for the first month. Didn't start until the latest update came out.

After a few days of it not happening at all, it happened while I was on the phone earlier today. Gonna call tech support tomorrow to see if it's a hardware or software issue.

Where is the "always on mobile network" setting at? And how do you do a hard reset?

Goto your main screen (home) and press
menu
settings
Wireless and networks
Mobile networks (plural and has a drop down arrow)
Enable always on mobile data

I have tried everything in this thread and it still does it. Just ordered my 3rd EVO . HTC needs to get on the ball and get this fixed, Its funny how sprint knows nothing about it but its all over the web that people are having the same problem.

My evo is randomly rebooting. Very infrequently, like once every week or two weeks. It did it yesterday while just sitting in my pocket. My phone has the official OTA 2.2 update. It also did it before the 2.2 update. Not rooted.
I have no task killers installed but I do have an official beta for swype.
My always on mobile data setting is enabled and has been that way. I don't think I ever touched it.
Anybody know what is causing this? And how to fix it?

I shut it down and pulled the battery and waited 30 seconds and put the battery back in and turned it back on. Hopefully that solves it for me but I won't know for like a month of it not happening. My wife's had been rebooting. More frequently (like in calls and using navigation). I did the same for her (before the 2.2 update) and it seems to have solved it. After the 2.2 update she isn't reporting the problem either. We both have swype installed. And we both got our phones from preorders on launch day.

Does android just need to restart every once in a while?

Hmm first post about this was on 06-09-2010 Every time I talk to sprint tech support either on the phone or in the stores no one knows about this problem. I think we all need to call sprint daily until something is done or at least until they claim there is a problem and working on a fix.

I'll admit I'm being lazy cause I'm at work right now (cause the fix could be in this thread). I found a fix someone posted on sprint's tech forums. It involved getting your MSL code then basically doing a GPS reset. Sorry I don't have a link handy, but I'll try to find it tonight.

For now I found the steps to do this. Once you have your MSL, go to the phone screen and enter this:

##GPSCLRX#

As soon as you do this, you'll be prompted for a password...this is your MSL # that you can get from Sprint customer service. Once you enter your MSL code and hit enter, it will let you know that it was accepted and then your device will reboot in 10 seconds.

This fixed my issues with my EVO rebooting everytime I needed to use any app that used GPS. From reading the sprint forum where I found this fix, it seems to help many other users there as well!

Good luck!

Has anyone gone through and listed their Hardware version #'s, SW #'s, and all that good stuff to see if it could be attributed to a common issue? I'll admit I don't know what the MEID # is, or the IMSI # and if that's "user sensitive" info. But if someone wanted to create say a google spreadsheet with the appropriate fields that could vary from device to device and link that here with this thread, those affected could input their info and also describe the scenario that causes their EVO to reboot (GPS use, incoming call while using GPS, randomly, etc).

hey Rowdy what part of dallas are you in? Have you been to the mocckingbird store? The last time i was there they had some pretty good techs there

I live near Uptown, and haven't been to that store. There is a store off Oaklawn that's close to me, but I have only been there with my wife when she was getting her last phone. I usually do all my business online, unless I have to go into the store.

I saved this from another website http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/37288?tstart=0

I had same issues and the memory card solution did not work for me. I found that only clearing out the GPS unit using hash code ##GPSCLRX# and then inputing your msl code which you get from Sprint. Here are the steps if anyone is intersted, best part is no hard or factory resets needed. Also no app troubleshooting. The only part that sucks is you have to call and speak to Sprint and they don't like giving out the unlock code. I told them exactly what I was going to do and they gave it to me. I did the whole Sprint repair as well as new phone senerio and I still had the issue return. Factory and Hard resets did nothing either. It always came back within 24 hours.

1) Call Sprint and retrieve msl code.
2) Open dialer and press ##GPSCLRX#
3) When prompted input the code from step 1
4) Phone will reboot in 10 seconds
