Please provide specifics of your phone's hardware version, what battery type you are using, what apps you use, GPS on or off, signal strength of the cell site when it rebooted, etc. so that we can pin this thing down.

I was using the stock. I ordered some spares off ebay from China. The 2 batteries n charger for $10. I've been using them to test how long I can run for an upcoming trip. No over heating no reboot . When I switch back to the stock battery the reboots start up again. Nothing else has changed..same apps stock evo 2.2.

So you're saying the cheap-o batteries from China work better than the stock battery (probably also from China)?
If so, this might be a major breakthrough if it works for other people who've been experiencing these random reboots.
I have an original EVO from June with all of the updates and recently rooted but still on stock ROM. Since June I maybe have had 2-3 reboots. Today while traveling and using the GPS I had 4 reboots in about a 4 hour period, all while using the phone. If memory serves me correctly I was also using the GPS and phone in the previous 2-3 reboots.
It also seems to take much longer to boot in this situation opposed to a normal power off and power on.

Stock battery. Im picking up a 2000 aftermarket battery this week maybe it will help. It seems to happen more with the google nav or cardio trainer running. But then again it rebooted with just the factory apps installed. It was sitting on the desk charging and I noticed it rebooted without being on a call or any GPS app running
I feel for some of you guys. The various problems on my phone only started around August and I can't get them to replicate in front of the rep. Whats worse is most of them talked to me as if they didnt believe me at all.
I just wanted to say that my reboots only started after I installed Iheartradio. It would never work on my phone in the past, but I missed the app (from iPhone days). After trying again last week, it worked! But my phone reboots once every day now.

For what it's worth, my rebooting issues didn't begin until AFTER the last update - which HTC told me was supposed to address the issue.
Also, recently after two hard resets I'm not getting the reboot loop anymore, but random reboots about twice a day. I've not had any location/GPS services running over the last week, so that doesn't seem to be my issue.
With absolutely no proof whatsoever, I'm thinking it may be overheating? Still trying to nail my issues down.
I'm curious about folks switching out the stock battery for off brands. Anyone else, besides those who've posted, had success with this?

I have to say yes. The cheap batteries from China are working great. I've been getting about 18 hours out of them with moderate use. Heavy use...and I mean HEAVY as in using it like my laptop, movies, tv, games web etc. I'm getting about 5 hrs. The one thing I notice with the new batteries is that they are running at a higher voltage. 4-4.2 as opposed to 3.4-3.6 on the stock battery. For furhter testing I swapped my stock battery into another EVO in the house and it started rebooting within a few hours.

I started having rebooting issues a couple of weeks ago. I'm still trying to troubleshoot the problem before I take any drastic steps like doing a hard reset (which some posters have already said, didn't solve their problem) or getting a replacement EVO from Sprint.
Before the Froyo 2.2 update, my EVO never randomly rebooted. However with the installation of several app updates and a few new ones, I can't totally rule out a bad app. I've been selectively uninstalling apps to see if a bad app is causing the problem. So far, it doesn't seem to be a problem with any of the new apps I'm using. However, I haven't removed any of the original apps that came preinstalled (I may save that for when/if I have to do a hard reset).
One thing that I have noticed is that the "rebooting" seems to start, after I've been using the EVO for awhile, e.g. watching YouTube videos or surfing the internet, and it begins to feel "warm". Perhaps a heat related issue? I dunno.
My EVO has never randomly rebooted when it's just sitting in standby or while it's being charged.
My next step is to switch batteries, as soon my replacement arrives. I ordered the extended battery from Sprint which should arrive in a few days. If the battery change doesn't solve the problem, I'm going to try a hard reset. So, I'll report back with an update when I have more news.

Sprint and Radio Shack told me I had to deal with HTC for the 1 year warranty since it was more than 30 days old.
I called HTC - of course they had me do a factory reset (which I told them I had already done) and asked that I call back if it happens again.
So, I installed nothing and created a new gmail account with no contacts or anything else to sync.
24 minutes later I called HTC back when it started rebooting again.
HTC gave me an RMA number and explained that if they could not find a problem, I may be charged "up to $35 for a triage fee" and if there was a problem not covered under warranty they would call for repair authorization with a cost quote. They said defects covered under warranty would be completed at no cost.
So after about a week and a half, I got an email from them saying my EVO was repaired and a tracking number for FedEx was included.
It should be here Wednesday. I am crossing my fingers hoping it is really fixed.

I've had an EVO 4G since launch. My first one power cycled when I used navigation (google) and took or made call. I complained, did all the typical troubleshooting and ultimately had it replaced.
Now my replacement unit is doing the same damn thing, except now it's doing it when I check my gmail, check my text messaging, and still navigating.
I'm at a loss, this is so disheartening, and Sprint CS is acting like it's my fault. I love my EVO, but this is beginning to be a deal breaker.

There was no documentation sent with it to say what they found or did to it.

11/17/2010 Update... I may have solved my random reboot problem, but only time will tell.
I replaced the original battery with the new extended battery from Sprint on Saturday and it didn't solve the random reboot problem. In fact, it rebooted shortly after I installed the battery.
Next, I decided to do a hard reset via the boot screen (i.e. holding down the volume and power button simultaneously) as described here...

Before installing any apps, I tested the EVO for about 1 day to see if it would reboot while viewing YouTube videos or surfing the internet (either process would usually cause a reboot after awhile). After a few hours of running videos and surfing websites with lots of multimedia and Flash videos, I'm happy to report ...no reboots! I turned on GPS and ran Sprint Nav for a couple hours, no problems. No reboots during calls, but I never had problems even before the reset.
Yesterday, I started installing a few of my "must have" apps. I also kept GPS turn on and turned on 4G whenever I was in an area with a good signal. So far, no random reboots, as of this posting. I'm going to start installing some of my other apps, but I'm going to test them out systematically, just in case that one of them may be the culprit.
(just a side note... the new Sprint Extended battery is working great!)

However, I did that reset in the boot screen twice and it did not help my rebooting.
I am using the stock battery however. I do have an extended battery on the way.
On another note, my EVO that I just got back from HTC with a new mainboard yesterday is having issues with the capacitive buttons on the bottom of the screen. The rarely ever light up, only been on a few times with no rhyme or reason as to when on or off. I think I will just live with it as long as the reboots stay away.

I am having same issue, today it froze while trying to play homerun battle 3d, at this point I am thinking of just getting it replaced, these reboots are annoying, and I did hard reset 3 times now, did nothing

Help us isolate the problem: what else was the phone doing at the time? Was it in a strong or weak signal area? Was the GPS turned on? Were there lots of other apps running in the background at the time? Other pertinent info?
Obviously the 3 hard resets did not do the trick, so the solution must lie elsewhere.
