Help Evo Rebooting on its own

I had the issue when switching from roaming to non-roaming to roaming and back to non-roaming. It just blanked, and started up again.

So I don't know if this will help anyone else but I've been getting random restarts and noticed it ALWAYS restarted when I launched Google Maps and GPS turned on (not just the location based icon but also the radar looking icon). I removed the live wallpaper I was using and now I have no restart issues - at least when I launch Google Maps or Navigation.

Do you have the always-on data box unchecked in the settings?

I did that to my and my wife's evo to try and improve battery life, and noticed that both of our phones started rebooting every 45 minutes or so.

Once I re-checked it, things returned to normal. I'm sure it has to do with some app that was running in the background, but I was unable to isolate the problem.

Hope this helps. :)

This appears to be the issue in my case. The 3G will kick off when not needed and then the phone fumbles itself when it tries to kick it back on so it restarts. Ive had it rechecked for the last few days and I havent had a restart (except for one while charging which was odd). Hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that I have gotten a total of 3 random reboots since owning the phone. Both reboots happened this week. I have never unchecked always-on roaming data.

Every random reboot that has occurred happened during a phone call. The first 2 reboots happened back to back (talking on phone, phone reboots, waited till phone booted back up to make call again, phone rebooted again). The third time the phone rebooted was also when I was in the middle of a call. But it didn't reboot again after I recalled my friend and I was able to finish the phone call.

So a quick update - I guess the Live wallpaper was not the issue. Reboots were still happening everytime GPS became active. Master reset has fixed the issue for now. I've also heard that the Exchanges unlock password has something to do with it (rumor has it you need to use an alphanumeric password to avoid random resets). After the master reset I used and alphanumeric password but am also using lockpicker. I don't think my issue is the exchange password anyways because I was going fine since launch day up until a couple of days ago.

don't think it's related to exchange. i'm not using it and having serious reboot issues.

Mine always reboots about a minute after someone calls me when google navigator is running.

Yeah mine started rebooting during calls with the use of navagator. Now its restarted 3 times within the last hour. My always-on auto data is checked (settings-networks-mobile networks), and I've never unchecked it. But I do turn off mobile with a widget on my home screen, so I'm going to just leave that alone and see what happens.

UPDATE: My phone has not rebooted since I deleted the Mobile widget off my home screen. I am also synced to facebook, but it hasn't seemed to have an effect.

my problem became a little more interesting. i thought my reboots were random but was able to determine tonite they are not.

once the display goes dark, the phone reboots exactly every 10 minutes. what could possibly be happening every 10 minutes? none of my accounts (mail, facebook) are sync'ing that frequently.

edit: does not reboot when being charged.

Has anyone else checked their uptime yet to see if it changes after the "reboot" ??? I have posted about that on several threads and have not seen anyone confirm or deny it from their phone. Also, is anyone considering the fact that there are multiple issues causing the same effect? You only need to have one of them to get the effect.

Also, after discussing this with a system/network/hardware architect that I know he suggested that if the uptime was not changing, then it was not rebooting... It is possible the system is "resetting" itself in order to change/enable/disable a particular hardware function. this causes reboot like visual confirmation (think restarting x.org on a linux machine, only this is more of restarting a "chipset" than restarting software.

I have rechecked the menu --> settings --> wireless & networks --> Mobile Network on Friday and have not had a reboot since. I do not know what might be triggered by having/not having that checked to cause a reboot, but it seems to be helping most people.

Google Earth hasnt been working for me. Every time I have tryed to use it or google maps, the phone would reboot. I turned off google talk in the settings and turned off auto start for google talk. the programs work fine for me now

GEtting suspicious it may be part of the issue. Anyone else synced to facebook and having these reboots?

I'm pretty sure you're right. I fought this problem over the weekend. I uninstalled many apps and even un-rooted my phone with no success. I was really close to doing a hard reset.

My phone was repeatedly rebooting and getting hot. I installed os monitor and noticed an excessive amount of data activity and the people app was using 30% of the resources. It burned through an entire battery in less than 4 hours while just sitting there. My up time and awake time were the exact same as well.

I had facebook for htc sense set to update contacts once per day. I turned that off and soft reset and my problem went away.

FWIW, I do have enable always on data unchecked and my problem is not occuring at this point.

My evo just started rebooting on its own while taking a pic.
after reboot whent back into album threw camera and it said no pics found and rebooted
its working again but what the world. bad bad htc.

Try deleting your facebook sync account, then re-entering it.

Mine just rebooted, sat for about 30 minutes without me doing anything to it, and just rebooted again. Grrr.

I have it sitting glass face down, so maybe that has something to do with it. I had the "mobile network always on" unchecked, but I've had it unchecked for a week or so. So I re-enabled it, going to see if it changes anything.

Just want to update my reboot situation for all the geniuses out there:

1. I think the reboots started when I turned off the "always on" data thing. However, I have had reboots with it on or off.

2. I usually have all networks turned off, except when I'm using them (lets my battery last me two days!!). I do, however, have syncing toggled on, even when networks are disabled. I do all the toggling via widgets.

3. I am not using exchange in any way.

4. I am using facebook sync.

5. I have deleted Google Goggles, but not Google Maps, and still experienced two reboots in 24 hours since that time.

6. I have only had one reboot occur during a call, but have had nearly a dozen in the week or so I've had the phone.

7. Stranger still, when I got the phone, there were someone else's pictures on it! It was supposedly a brand-new phone! Probably not related, but still.

8. I am going to attempt a factory restore of the phone, and only reimport my media/contacts but no applications for 24-48 hours to see if it may be a hardware issue. If the problem persists, I'm going to ask Sprint for a replacement.

I hope those details may give somebody insight. If not, is it possible this could be an EVO hardware issue? I do tech support for a *ahem* rival smartphone, so I know that these things can happen, and it's just a matter of bad luck to get a unit with these issues.

I have a HV 0002.

My phone has restarted 4 times today, out of the blue, that's the most it has done since I've had it since June 4th. Before that, I restarted 4 times all together. Is this normal or is my phone updating?

Do you have a task killer installed ? Mine did that when I had ATK , but then I did a master reset and didn't install one again. No restarts since = )

I was having the same problem with random resets at least 4 times a day. I removed my facebook account from the phone and signed in again. Some people were saying this started happening after unchecking always on mobile data. Mine has been unchecked since the phone release date, and I only started having problems recently. After signing out and logging back into facebook, I haven't had any issues. Give it a whirl. :)

Did same thing and no more random

Anyone else having this problem? It started off just all of sudden turning itself off and back on. I didn't think much of it, thought maybe I had accidentally hit the top button in my pocket or something. Now it does it about 3 to 4 times every hour. Anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do? Thanks.
