Evo screen shattered with no drop

First of all, I joined this forum because I experienced this problem. Yes, I googled it, and that's how I found this site. I didn't join the forum last Friday the minute I bought the phone, because I had no reason to. I don't have to enroll in a forum to enjoy my phone.

I joined because I was looking for guidance and ideas. Isn't this what forums are for? Instead, for the most part, I have been ridiculed, called a liar, and a troll. By the way, what is a troll? I am not 3 inches tall with pink fuzzy hair.

Picture, yes. Sorry I didn't post it last night. I had a very long day, not that most of you would care. I just brought my dad home from 40 days in the ICU/Rehab hospital. That's also the truth.

A sincere thanks to all who had genuine responses, and believe my issue. It is what it is, and I have notified HTC of this problem. I have also been told by the Sprint store to keep all documentation from them and Assurion in the chance that there is some kind of documented problem/solution from HTC.

I can't believe all the negativity that has been shown to me on my first post (gasp!). If you could take all that energy in negative postings, into positive feedback, you could make a world of difference to many people. I really hope you are not like that in the face to face world. If so, I feel so very sad for you. I'm so glad I'm not that way. I would NEVER bash a person on a forum, especially on their FIRST post with a legitimate concern. You should be ashamed.

Again, if anybody has HELPFUL ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let me know. By the way, I purchased with a platinum visa, and was told that since I don't pay my cellular bill with that visa, it is not covered. This was direct from Visa Warranty Manager.

Just for the record, Trolling is trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness.

Also, that sucks about your phone. I'm planning on buying an EVO in a month or two (once my contract is up), hope that doesn't happen to mine!

I had my Evo for less than 30 days, dropped in on the carpet and it made the most glass shattering sound...the sound that a cheap glass makes in the sink when it breaks! Yes, there is user error on my part, but this glass on this phone is so fraile that even the slightest tap will crack it. I bought it at BestBuy and unfortunately for me I also bought the Black Tie Insuarance from the Geeks Squad. Mistake!....

....Took them 5 weeks to get my phone back to me, screen replaced. I can only hope that it's a better, stronger quality glass than before, but it looked the same.

I had the invisashield on the glass and a phone case. The shield kept that glass in plce until I could get it to BestBuy for repair. The case, totally useless, (but cute), now I ordered an Otter case for it, that might help (not cute though).

My husband has a EVO too. The same day I got mine back, he dropped his, and guess what? He's in agony waiting the 5 weeks for his phone! When we get it back we're cancelling the Black Tie Insurance and going with Sprints insurance. We'd rather pay the $100 deductible than go without our EVO for that long! With that kind of deductible I'm losing my phone every 6 months! Maybe I'd get the lastest update in screen technology that way? Maybe NASA can help them with this glass problem? They make that cool bullet proof that the Presdient uses in his limo. It even stops that those hard-caore bullets now.

In conclusion: Dont need to convince me...there is a problem with the glass on the EVIO screen, and Black Tie Performace Insurance is inconvenient, so say the least!

its crazy how negative people can be, but i for one will try to help, my backlight stopped working in my phone, i was outside the thirty days with no insurance, so i went to the sprint store yesterday to buy the insurance, and i showed the phone to one of the reps, and the first thing he said was "well we can replace it for you, it wont cost you anything" and so today i got my replacement, and it was free like he said it would be, i dunno how they would react to your screen breaking like that, but the way it cracks is obviously impossible from a drop to me, apparently you were turning the volume down? id just talk to them, couldn't hurt, and you might get it changed out for free.

The OP posted this last June. I think she has already found her solution to the problem. I think you guys should just let this thread die a natural thread.

Wow, straight grave diggin up posts! lol As for all the people who said the screens so fragile etc. Idk, maybe mines different, but ive dropped it short distances and banged the face into a few things lately, and luckily, not a scratch. Sorry to hear of the people with problems, but love to see carnage pics :D (Thats normal right? lol)

That "cool bullet proof" glass is over 3" thick.

I know it has been awhile since you posted this, but my EVO just shattered in the exact same spot that yours did when I look at where the shatter started. I know I have to pay the $100.00 but this is a bummer. I did fall a few days earlier and was ok good, the phone is okay (my phone), had a really good cover over it as protection (our family has 3 EVOs and we know to be careful). Then at work a few days later, total shatter when I laid it face down on a metal counter (still in protective cover) while stopping at an office staff desk. It was weird. Shattered like yours.

Who puts their phone face down on anything? I know people try to be lens cautions but face down on a metal counter?

The EVO uses gorilla glass which is the strongest glass you can put on a smartphone. If it breaks you should only blame yourselves. It's a smartphone, which equates to miniature laptop in my pocket. Does anyone think they can drop a laptop without the screen cracking?

If I am a lousy driver why go out and buy a motorcycle? If you drop and break phones, why go out and get a phone that will break if you can't take proper care of the phone?

Just wanted to share my cracked-screen experience.

This cracked screen was caused by (my) human error: phone was sitting on my lap as i was getting out of the car. Landed face-down on a gravel driveway. Took it to Sprint and they said I had to go through Asurion. 4 days and $100 (thanks to the Sprint insurance) later I had my new phone.

No sleep lost or angry posts about the ease at which the screen cracks posted, I just accpeted it for what it was. Odd part was that I could still use the phone as normally as possible. After all, a little glass in the thumb never hurt anyone. :D

I have yet to find a suitable screen protector to guard against this. Does cases like Otterbox help or does it help more with the back of the phone?

I purchased EVO #1 on day one and opted for the insurance.
About six months later I'm at work with my precious EVO on my desk. I'm working on my laptop and hear a little sharp ping sound but don't think much about it. Later a call comes in and I pick him up and immediately see the crack about an inch across the upper right corner. It definitely was not there when I placed him on the desk.
At the service center I did not even try to give them the spontaneous occurrence story. I did tell them about it when my new (refurbished) no charge EVO #2 arrived. No one there had heard of such a thing.
Four months later and #2 is all good- even after I dropped her (Yes, strangely #2 is of a different gender) on a cement floor from about four feet - a concussion so strong that the back popped off and the battery slid across the floor.
Go figure.
