EVO Spontaneously Combusted - No Joke

The photos make it look like the device was dropped not exploded.... If it exploded you should have char marks...

Look at the earpiece - read the posts....there is discoloration on the earpiece and a melted screen protector. Are those char marks not good enough for you? I'm sorry that you feel the photos aren't good enough, but i'm simply telling you guys what happened.

So you phone went supersonic huh. Just put a black patch in middle of the crack and in the meantime, it'll be a pirate.
lucky.

You know... Apple Fanboys are the new Illuminati. They killed JFK, hid Area 51, fought to keep Will unfree and found the Holy Grail.

Now for the next phase in their nefarious plot: faked stories of Android weaknesses that will destabilize the free world.

haha, i hadn't realized the extent to which AFB (apple FanBoys) had infiltrated our daily existence. Now i understand why people are so quick to accuse.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! :D

Perhaps a bad solder and it shorted something. Glad it wasn't worse and cause yd you harm. _ _it happens. You get a new one and no worries!

What happens when a AFB crosses over and buys an EVO.

You find the nexus of the universe (pardon the Nexus1 pun). It's like the old Seinfeld episode where Cramer is lost at the corner of First and First. Or when an unstoppable force collides with an immovable object.

Agreed - as far as I'm concerned - no big deal. It's a little annoying to deal with, since i've been waiting for the phone for months, but a minor annoyance none-the-less. Could have been worse, especially if the glass had shrapneled or something.

iPhones have gone up in smoke as well. :) Someone was burned from one. It was shortly after the 3G was released. Pictures were all over the web. The LiPo batteries can be pretty dangerous. The guy got some good "stuff" from Apple.

My iPhone Burned me! - Mac Forums

I remember when the iPhones were exploding....if it's the same battery, as you say, then there is no reason the same cannot happen in an Evo.

So for all those non believers out there - i couldn't make this stuff up if i tried. I've taken these photos with my webcam on the my laptop, so they're not great, but you can see what is what. The black streak is me blacking out a portion of the reflection of my laptop screen.

Picture one - overview that shows all the damage including the scratch across the screen.

Picture two - Close up of the earpiece and the Zagg protector by the camera. You can see the discoloration on the silver earpiece where it sparked and smoldered, and the Zagg has literally melted right by the camera.

OK I buy it now sorry for the doubt. NOW you need to call HTC right away Im guessing they are going to want your handset ASAP. What if by chance you had the phone pressed against your head? Give a call to HTC they need to see this not Sprint or Best Buy.

I don't know but to me it looks like the upper right hand corner of the phone is where it was dropped.... Now I am not doubting the OP that it could have just exploded in his/her hands but from the pictures it looks like it was dropped. Some pictures of the top and right side edge of the phone would be nice to see also just to confirm it wasn't dropped.

No worries. People are always just so quick to jump sometimes. I hadn't thought about contacting HTC directly. That's probably a good idea.

If you cant find the number call Sprint C/S they have it. I would say it looks to be more in the area of the main power switch on top of the phone.

hahahahahaha.....

Yea thos pics dont prove a damn thing. If the phone really did go boom.... i dont think it would even be funtional....

Dude - i'm not trying to prove anything. I don't care if you believe me or not. If you don't, move on. No need to comment.

I just thought i'd share a story with you guys. I've got no reason to make it up, but i also have no interest in trying to "prove" anything to some keyboard warrior who doesn't know me from Adam.

Reading comprehension is tough sometimes too. I never said the phone blew up, nor does the title say it went boom. But thanks for playing.

Seriously - you guys are amazing. I don't know that i have a good enough camera available but i can guarantee you that the phone was not dropped. The top and side edges are flawless. The very edge of the screen bezel looks damaged, because, guess what NEWS FLASH - sparks and fire can melt plastic.

How would dropping the phone explain the discoloration and "charring" of the silver earpiece?

You do realise that he doesn't have to prove anything to any of us right? He just relayed an experience he had with the phone and has no reason to lie about this. Take it for what it is...

How's this for all you morons who think they know better: This is the best you're going to get - if you don't want to believe me, keep it to yourself, and go start some other thread that will make you feel better about yourself.

Literally the only damage is that which was caused by whatever short did this.

Don't bother. Soon they'll say they see Steve Job's face reflected on the broken screen...
