Both replies are pretty funny ...particularly with my chosen profession .
So - can't just return it ... My EVO came via Sprint Telesales Customer Retention routed thru the overseas hub. A 1x only sorry we did u wrong deal.
My local stores were not able to approve my deal so I'm hardwired into their system with NO option of f2f contact or f2f returns (In the saga of my crazy Pre replacements, the store mgrs tried to "help out" by doing this very thing .... personally verifying unboxing, that device was another failed unit, that I had NOT Damaged them & even provided their ID # s to Sprint & Assurion .... you have to understand that even with an in store employee unboxing & me not touching anything .... I had to pull rank @ Sprint with a special relationship & Assurion NEVER backed down...... I was still charged for a DOA--wld not even chArge or activate --BRICK that SPRINT was Legally verifying & calling out Assurion on Breach of Contract & Failure to Provide Comparible Model to customer with no Physical Damage Disclaimer . If I had to endure all that for something so obvious & B&W that a preSchooler would understand, then what kind of battle might I face with something that isn't visual .. Though I'm praying for a capacitive meter or scanner like electricians & landline phone techs use to be on hand at the Sprint Repairstore that at best would put me in the same scenario I was in with the DOA Pre s . Store can't process any portion of this for me like I said.)
Next: I'm not the only one who is getting the zap shocks .... anyone who holds the EVO with 2 hands touching or overlapping edges of unit , anyone who holds or touches it while charging via the usb wall outlet that came in org EVO box, and anyone touching the phone when the processor is activated -- which on my EVO at least is very obvious - def can feel it & sound is faint but also perceptible in a quiet area .... like what my old IBM Laptop did when the disk drive engaged.
Also FWIW my 4 buttons on the bottom -- menu home etc --- randomly fail to light up & then for no apparent reason will 'go live ' & charging always makes it happen. Annoying, but I was going to live with it ... however, it could be related - cause or effect - to the electric zapping. I won't say shocking to avoid confusion with something akin to a defib device or pacemaker or worse.
Also my touch sense on the keyboard is Horrible horrible horrible even after multiple calibrations that I barely got through b/c it kept sensing the wrong keys ....& b4 u say it ... it isn't me or my typing ....
Finally the probable smoking gun is the male use cable prong that snaps into the female port. It is slightly wobbly - not tight or firmly affixed - & the silver metal of the male prong on the use cable connector is noticeably visible .. at least 2 mm wide ... where it just won't seat any further & it delivers the worst electrical zap plus looks like its going to fall out of the port any second. It should be seated FLUSH with no silver metal of the male prong exposed ... just black visible from the black casing of the EVO to the black plastic mold over the male prong.
If anyone has a port connection like this plz tell me. I'm starting to believe this poor seating may have a lot to so with the zapping , although my EVO will zap u nearly continuously although only slight to moderate discomfort when unplugged but noticeably using the SD card or processor or drive or whatever it does when running certain large apps.
Just noticed that my side vol buttons r also loose .. you can slightly jiggle them like a newly loose tooth. Not sideways but like Ur going to press to use but just lay Ur finger pads on them u can feel & see & hear it.
Anyone else's like this ? .
Bottom line I'm praying for a FIX not a replacement EVO.
After all this unnecessary & unwanted drama just to get a working phone / mobile device , I might want some Therapy after all LOL.
