Root Evo V 4G RUU Flashing guide / Unroot guide

I did this successfully from an S-Off state and ended up with a fully factory phone and a LOCKED bootloader.
One note: The RRU would not work when I had MIUI ROM installed. I had to install a stock based ROM (I used Mobster ROM) and then the Unroot worked perfectly.

Can someone post a direct link to the RUU's zip file? cause No matter what I do I can't get the RUU Program to run at all.

I'm bumping this up. Why you may ask? Well if on the 14th, we are getting an update...figure this should be up top ;) I know I'll be using it once the update is live.

By the time that we know if the update is worthwhile I'm sure that a dev will pull it off the ota and make a flashable zip. Lot simpler to just wait.

I did this a slightly different way, that I had no idea would work xD I was so scared of bricking my phone just now. What I did was lock the bootloader, thinking "Meh I can reboot back to my ROM later." Nope. Stuck in fastboot. So I was like "oh. crap." Luckily, I've dealt with my own stupid mistakes before.

fastboot oem rebootRUU

then

fastboot flash zip rom.zip

Back to stock xD Wonder about the update though...i had SOMETHING available for update...it was a small update though...so I don't think that was right...

You are "DA MAN!!!" for this ! My old man & I both have different HTC phones that are rooted. I have the RUU for both since I soft-bricked mine trying to fix a bad rom install. What a BUTT SAVER ! Thanks Again.

Step by step worked fine until running RUU, I get:

ERROR [155]: UNKNOWN ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.

I will just flash the rom.zip right now,
I think it has something to do with my laptop not recognizing my phone unless it's in disk drive..

EDIT:
Flashing the rom.zip worked fine, I don't know what I may have done wrong with the .exe
Just putting it out there for anyone who gets the same error

hi guys,
i was running the Odex rom and then i tried following this guide to unroot. in hboot i got it to load the PG86IMG.zip and it seemed to load fine until it says: Main Verision is older! Update Fail! I'm at a loss to know what to do here. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
(i think my problem may have been that i relocked it with the Odex rom still on it?)

Noob question, ive been experimenting with root and roms for the past few weeks. Im trying to S-off my HTC EVO V 4G, everytime i fastboot oem lock to relock the bootloader, i get a too many links error, and it says *** RELOCKED *** SECURITY WARNING***. And running the RUU or manually extracting the zip both fail. Ive looked thru some threads and a few google searches and havent really found any useful information. Can anyone shed some light on why it will not relock properly so run the stock ruu.exe? Thanks

EDIT: ERROR 140 BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
Using RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.2_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_262287_signed

If it's saying relocked in the bootloader that means that you have successfully locked the bootloader. The security warning just means that it was previously unlocked.

The RUU.exe fails for wrong bootloader version, the PG86IMG.zip fails for Main Version is older. Any ideas? Thanks again

I currently have 1.14.x and the RUU is 1.13.x, is that a problem? If so how do i correct?

You won't be able to flash the RUU with S-ON unless you are unlocked with a rooted ROM and flash the attached zip file from recovery, which will set your mainver to 1.00.000.0 and allow you to flash the RUU.

Or you could unlock and flash a stock rooted ROM, then get S-OFF with the wire trick, which will allow you to flash the RUU without the version check.

AFAIK those are the only ways to flash the RUU if you are S-ON and have updated with the OTA.

If you are going to be doing the wire trick anyway you could try just flashing a stock (or stockish) rooted ROM and give it a try. Most people can get it to work with ROM's like Harmonia that are close to stock.

I'm personally an advocate of running the RUU to get all firmware and software back to a clean and consistent base before doing the wire trick, but you could always do that after gaining S-OFF if needed.

FYI FOR ANYONE WHO CARES, After 4 days of trying to S-off this following the jubear whatever with no help from them I GOT IT!!

Using Unlocked, prerooted Jmz Stock Odex rom, a paperclip, and half bricking my device multiple times. I am officially S-Off. Did i mention im 64bit, NOT 32. Jmz stockish rom, NOT STOCK RUU. SUCCESS! I feel so good now lol. Thanks everyone who tried to help me

Congratulations!

FWIW, a user in another thread who had installed the OTA was able to run the RUU.exe successfully with S-ON by flashing the mainver zip file posted above. Now that you are S-OFF you can flash the RUU.exe any time you want and don't even have to relock the bootloader (the wire trick should have left it locked, which you may not see if you accepted the JBear bootloader).

It does hide the lock status after jbear. I ran the flash unlocktoken but it says it already unlocked so i trust it. Installed a different Hboot [1.4/04] Radio, and PRI. Now im just trying to do the PRL update, hopefully all the effort is worth it. And find a rom I really like. Are all sense based ics roms terrible for theming? I tried mob v4 but it was lacking the dialer and other things, other roms so far ive only been able to change the battery icon and it was glitchy at that

After sending "fastboot oem lock" (without the quotes) my Evo V shows "RELOCED" (with a security warning) and not "LOCKED". Is this a problem (like in returning the phone)?

Also, I've discovered that after following the instructions given above for locking, my phone is now stuck in HBoot. Even when I power down or take out the battery and then restart the phone it goes to HBoot rather than bottoing normally. What do I do about this?

Finally, if I do the wire trick to get S-Off, how do I get it back to S-On?

I am trying to restore the phone to "out-of-the box", "factory new" state. Please help!

Thanks.

I've been tryng to flash the JMZ stock rom but keep getting the error "Md5 file not found" and the flash gets aborted. What bothers me is that I flashed that rom when I first unlocked and rooted the phone and don't remember getting that message, but I could be wrong. I'm using the same rom file that I flashed the first time (it is still on my sd card). So, how can I correct this? Thanks.
