EVO vs iPhone 4 Speed Test

Depends on the area your in. Remember, WiMax is still a fresh technology, and they are encountering fresh problems, and optimizations have yet to be made. 3G is been refined over and over again. When 3G first hit, it was 3x slower than it is today.

Yeah, others are getting amazing 4g speeds!

Really? My mom lives in savannah place hw 6 and Richmond when I go over there I see 3.86 mbps everytime that's weird your not getting better results.also the 3.86 isn't even full bars 4g I love going over there I live in beasley and 4g probably won't be in that 1 horse town for a While

Yeah, 2.8 is still the best I've been able to get and that was downtown in an open-air park. Most times I get under 2mb, sometimes under 1mb.

i think Gizmodo, the Gadget Guide has a lot of flash content.. right?
if so.. that would affect the test results? right?

also.. looking at the speed test difference (big difference)... and the web test difference (smaller differnece)...
The web test shows that the Speed test is NOT accurate.
Why.. I dont know.

I think so, there are too many variables to have a fair comparison. I'm just a bit concerned with the 4g speeds being slower than 3G here in my area.

from our short tests and conversation...

I would conclude that; in real world situations (not data speed tests)... the 4G is on par with that AT&T 3G speeds. and that as time moves on.... the 4G will fillout more and your speeds will improve.

well that is what I hope...

Honestly I'd rather Sprint spent their money improving their 3G network. Having the Evo for a month now Wimax seems like something of a gimmick. The radio eats battery like no other, the signal is next to impossible to pick up indoors, doesn't work very well when driving, etc etc.

I am getting download speeds on Evo in my area on 3G that are 5 to 7 times faster than I used to get on iPhone 3GS. On sprint 3G I am getting consistent 1.5-2 Mbps on download and 500-700 Kbps on upload.

Depends on the area. AT&T is fast in SOME areas. It's also very inconsistent. We were at the lake yesterday and my friend's iPhone4 was MUCH slower loading web pages. Also, I went camping this weekend and had my work Blackberry (on AT&T), and my Evo. I had service on the Evo the whole time, the AT&T phone didn't.

Yes, do this test after you've gone over AT&T's data limit of 2GB/month (say, after you've watched a few videos and such). Then compare your Sprint bill to your AT&T bill and see how much you care whether the i4 is faster than anything on the planet.

Now you will spend the rest of your life worrying about whether you are over your data limit. Enjoy

yes!! totally agree

I dunno, everyone's results are going to be different, but I'll tell you one thing, Sprint's network is better than ATT's.

I had an EVO, but I swapped to an iPhone4 for personal reasons and I'll tell you that I miss Sprint's network speed. On Sprint I was getting fast 3g everywhere, on my iPhone4 its spotty. When it works its fast, when its not, its painfully slow.

Also ontop of this, the Snapdragon is indeed faster than the A4 when it comes to web browsing. Hook both phones up to wifi and test it for yourself.

I live in Portland OR and have strong signal for both, I'm not sure what's going on with sprints 4g.
Portland is a test bed for wimax 2.
I tried gizmodo.com, i4 on 3G ad evo on 4g

iPhone 18 seconds
Evo 21 seconds

iPhone on 3G and evo on 3G

iPhone 19 seconds
Evo 20 seconds

Both tests with cleared cache, history, etc. What's going on with sprint's 4g? It seems like their 3G is faster!

I am currently testing in portland oregon,

1.) Going to be a hot day today.
2.) From pioneer courthouse square gizmodo loaded in 3 secs on 3g. It clocked in at 1.89mbps on 3g. So something is wrong.

I would say do a hard reset and if that does not clear up your problem do an exchange.

Maybe I missed it but how many bars are you getting?

att can be quicker, but is very limited by number of users.

Thats exactly what I get (here in PHX), I'm pretty happy with Sprints 3G network.

I was getting mediocre 4g speeds around where I live and work. (1-2down) Went to a neighboring county a few miles away and had full bars for 4G and the speed wasn't much better. Maxed out at just over 3 Mbps down and 1 up. Today in the same areas I haven't been able to get on 4G for more than a minute or 2 and the speeds are slower than 3G. Not sure what's going on, since the site says we are officially 4G capable now and it seems like it's off today. Richmond,VA.
