EVO vs iPhone 4 Speed Test

just remember that the only accurate way of getting speed test is by tethering.. speetest app is NOT accurate!!

I was getting mediocre 4g speeds around where I live and work. (1-2down) Went to a neighboring county a few miles away and had full bars for 4G and the speed wasn't much better. Maxed out at just over 3 Mbps down and 1 up. Today in the same areas I haven't been able to get on 4G for more than a minute or 2 and the speeds are slower than 3G. Not sure what's going on, since the site says we are officially 4G capable now and it seems like it's off today. Richmond,VA.

I can't wait until this 4G matures... imagine the blazing speed..

Please elaborate....

You are able to use data while on the phone? Are you on 4G?

If you are in a 4G zone, yes, you can talk on the phone and surf the web/recieve data at the same time. (like ATT brags about.) You can do this if youre using wifi for data, too.

OK just making sure. For a minute I thought you were talking about 3G...

Here's my 4G speed in Ft. Worth:

Where are you in Ft Worth. Down here on S. Hulen I don't get anything. :( Great 4G in Bedford though.

Portland is a test bed for wimax 2.

I am currently testing in portland oregon,

1.) Going to be a hot day today.
2.) From pioneer courthouse square gizmodo loaded in 3 secs on 3g. It clocked in at 1.89mbps on 3g. So something is wrong.

I would say do a hard reset and if that does not clear up your problem do an exchange.

Maybe I missed it but how many bars are you getting?

att can be quicker, but is very limited by number of users.

I'm getting 2 bars of 4G, sometimes just one. :(

Yes, do this test after you've gone over AT&T's data limit of 2GB/month (say, after you've watched a few videos and such). Then compare your Sprint bill to your AT&T bill and see how much you care whether the i4 is faster than anything on the planet.

Now you will spend the rest of your life worrying about whether you are over your data limit. Enjoy

Have unlimited data on both. :p

Crazy that the speeds are so different right up the road. I wish I could try it on my laptop via tether, but I don't get a 4G signal at home or at work (the only two places I'd have my laptop with me) despite both showing excellent signal on the coverage map.

on the phone i get 3.5 - 4 Mbs... but you wont be able to tell any difference in web browsing speeds on the phone for anything over 2.5 - 3 Mbs

Nice!
I wish I'd get those speeds :( so much for Portland being the testing meca of Wimax!:mad:

On the EVO, if you DO NOT have 4G, you can not surf web, check emails or anything if you are on the phone.
On the iPhone, you can be on the phone, switch to your browser and surf or go to your email and check emails.

I have convinced a friend of mine to switch. He is on the phone on conference calls a lot. He figured this out, returning the EVO.

on my Evo...the SpeedTest app is OFF! If I use my browser and go to speedtest.net and run the test, I get 3-4 mbits higher. On the phone app, I avg 9.9 mbit on a 25 mbit network. From my browser, I avg. out around 14.

Big difference!

This comment has nothing to do with Evo or iPhone. It has to do with Sprint vs AT&T 3G network. On Sprint 3G there is no simultaneous voice/data but there is on 4G.

Given that AT&T drop call rate on iPhone is pretty high this is moot point. If your conference call drops every so often and there is no dependable call quality who cares. This is why I switched to Sprint. I would not use iPhone on AT&T for business.

I am glad you guys stated that the Speedtest app sucks.
I was getting pretty upset about my speeds and thinking about moving back to Verizon for the DroidX and the bonus minutes they offered for my return. (I would have probably moved back if the X wasnt huge. The EVO is already on the edge of "Too big" in my book)

In Chantilly VA, I was getting 500Kbps-800Kbps on 3G
On My Wifi, I was getting 5Mbps

My cousin on his Iphone4 was getting 1MBps on 3G and 10Mbps on the same Wifi.

You have confirmed your troll colors with this post.

The guy is not only a troll. But an idiot as well. Anyone that spends any length of time on conference or business calls would not have anyone use an iphone. The call drop rate is so bad they have an app to report dropped calls. In fact att and apple said 30% drop rate was acceptable in NYC. Thats terrible. And i know 3g data and voice are not on the same band, but when my friend and i talk and he is on his iphone using data the calls drop much more.
