Looking at Smoda widget and it says it has access to phone calls and can modify phone state/network without user's knowledge! Is this something to worry about?
Also looked at apps Juice Defender and Green Power. Both have mixed reviews. Any advice is appreciated.
The most I've *ever* gotte out of this thing is 8 hrs. And thats with 3g off for half that time. If I don't. Turn it off, I get 4 at best with one phone call.
Goto page 1 of this thread as there should be a link for network there. That allows you to turn 3G off. Another option is to put the phone in airplane mode when not in use.

I can access the link on the web, but not in the market... sounds pretty risky anyway, maybe be why it's not on the market via the phone.
If you goto the first page of this thread on your phone and click the link it gives you the option to open market and then you can install from there.
Hmm, couldn't find an app called network in the market.
Update. Downloaded the "Data Enabler Widget" (no "Permissions" listed!) yesterday and fully charged phone in the evening, then disconnected it from charger. This morning the phone remains fully charged! So thus far it's been a success. Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions. I'll let you know if things revert back to battery draining. (By the way, how do you add the "Thanks" tab at the bottom of the messages?)
Maybe, but I don't know enough about these things to give advice; so I'll report what's worked so far for me. I will say that my use of the device is limited right now (though will probably significantly increase a few months down the road), and just going on the web briefly today, then switching off the "data enabled", my battery icon is still completely green and thus fully charged. Yesterday I did turn on airplane mode for few seconds then turned it off. I also had to reset my device (it didn't have much new info on it yet) for google calender reasons. The only other thing I've done is several cycles of recharging, so it's hard to know what cured the battery problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.as far as overnight usage is concerned, doesn't putting the phone in airplane mode do the same thing? cuts off all radio searching , hence battery drainage?
I use quick settings and just switch 3g off until I need it. My battery lasts MUCH longer that way, and you can still make phone calls and send/receive texts with it off. I can't really think of a reason to leave it on all the time unless you need notifications from certain apps? Or am I missing something?
