Exchanged my Droid - loose screen

I've got a 45/09. My screen doesn't click, but my DROID "rocks" when I put it on a table or desk. It doesn't rock too bad, but it certainly bugs the hell out of me when I'm at work txting with my phone on my desk between myself and my computer keyboard. I tried to get it exchanged at the VZ store, but the manager said, "That's not something that Motorola is going to warranty, so I don't know what to tell you."

My replacement (in a white box and 48/09) wobbles as well on a flat surface.

I think the frame of the phone is a bit warped. The battery door does not fit flush with the frame in some places, but the problem is not the battery door. The phone wobbles with the battery door removed and I can actually see that the battery itself rests higher on the right side than the left.

It bugs me, but I'm not going to try to get it replaced. I think both Verizon and Motorola would simply laugh if I tried. If anything, I'll get some sort of case to 'hide' this defect.

Everything else about the phone is perfect. The slider is rock solid.

I took the phone back to the Verizon store and they replaced it. The new one features not only a solid slider that actually requires some effort to open but the apps all seem to behave better too (no reboots since I bought it).

I think I just got a lemon.

Thanks for all your responses.

This is normal. Happened for 2 of my Droids. I think it just comes out by use. Anyways, the Verizon in my neighborhood refuses to replace for a clicking screen.

Having the same issue: The left edge (portrait orientation) of my upper slider rides slightly above the lower base and pressing the left side of my screen causes a clicking noise as the two surfaces make contact. Three units in the local Verizon show room were similar. The noise is noticeable enough that use in a quiet library setting (where I spend a lot of time) is a little awkward. The sliding mechanism itself is not too lose or too tight, but the misalignment makes it too noisy.

Do you think the local store will replace if I am persistent or should I try calling 611?

My 30 day return period ends in three days but this should be covered even after this period, right.

Other than that the phone has been great.

Thanks

Call the *611 and complain there... otherwise you run a chance of the store saying tough luck our models are like that its common wear.

If you are still within your 30 days, take it back to vzw, they have to replace it, with no problems, as part of their '30 day worry free guarantee'

i had no issues with my droid until i started using my seidio innocase and ever since then when i have the case off i have that clicking just about everywhere. now i am forced to always have my case on if i ever want to use the touchscreen. its not that big of a deal and im just gonna live with it unless it gets REALLY bad.....*buys insurance* but yah it does suck.

I exchanged for a new Droid that is better but not perfect. The new one had only a small gap on one side and it is much quieter overall in use, which is what really matters to me. The store didn't have a single Droid without a gap on one or both sides.

In the process of conversion by the store guy to the new hardware I lost all my free apps. Is there any way to prevent this in future. I've read online that the "save settings" option in Droid Settings will allow free apps to be restored without hunting each one down individually. The store guy said this is not true.

The biggest problem is I apparently can no longer install Swype because the beta is now closed. Also, my new install of Sweeter Home no longer downloads themes. Clicking on Menu->Themes... allows me to select themes from internal memory or the sd card but not to download anything. Also, if I attempt to save an editied layout (is a layout the same as a theme?) I get the message "Sweeter Home has stopped unexpectedly ... please try again". Nothing works from there until Sweeter Home returns to the orignal display.

So my new Droid is quieter, but not perfect, and I lost two of my best apps in the process. I suppose that is progress.

Any suggestions on obtaining Swype (does it actually work to download the zip file and install from sd card as described?) and/or returning Sweeter Home to its previous much better functional status?

Thanks.
