Help Expandable storage (Micro SD) limit

That's not micro though? It is on sale at various places...

As far as micro- one new company whose name escapes me, not one of the big boys, demonstrated one at that capacity at some computer show just before summer...promising retail sales by July...hasn't arrived yet.

The multi TB have been discussed/announced/planned for like two years...still vaporware surprisingly.

Some big name made big announcement two summers ago...í think Toshiba...but needed to make a new factory with that capability...this could be almost like when a city announces a new subway line: 2020/2030...

Dollars to doughnuts main stumbling block has got to be rare earths availability & precious metals pricing.

It's just taking too long for this technology to materialize. Ditto ssd's for computers( disappearing from most preconfigured systems), ditto ram for everything- the latter which has remained upgrade-expensive & at suspiciously-low amounts for video cards & preconfigured computer systems).

I Shoulda phrased it differently...since I'm talking without the experience.
But
The poster that gave the ok got my mind completely at ease.
I have zero qualms about getting one.

And since this time of year if you see a special, it can disappear just like that...

Happy holidays my friend.

My Adata 128gb micro sd card works fine in my Stylo. The only issue I am having is it working correctly with apps like Link2SD. These apps will not recognize the 2nd partition, and am not sure yet if it's just that particular card or whether apps like Link2SD can't work with large cards. But for most people not using a second partition for special apps, the large card should be just fine.

I just ordered another 128gb card at Newegg. It is by Silicon Power and costs 49.99 minus a 24% discount at checkout which brought it to $37.99. The discount is good till 11/23 in case anyone is interested. Fry's is also supposed to offer a 128gb micro sd card for $30 on Black Friday.

k94536 please follow Terry15 advice.

What í said doesn't exist..it's all fake.

I apologize to both you and Terry15 for interfering with that.

Not to worry. Maybe part of the confusion is that some phones are marketed as being compatible with very high capacity cards that don't even exist yet! The new LG V10, for example, is marketed as being compatible with cards up to 2tb. Some poor soul may read this, then go on eBay and find just such a card at a price that seems to good to be true. If they don't do their homework, they may get sucked in.

I am getting this feeling that while 1 or 2tb cards are hypothetically doable, realistically it is very hard to make them at such large capacities. The reviews on Amazon for Sandisk's 200gb card, while generally positive, frequently say it is a lot slower than lower capacity micro sd cards. That may be the tradeoff for getting so much data on such a tiny card. At some point that tradeoff may not be worthwhile.

Ahh I see, like I said I really haven't been on top of that at all but thanks for the heads up
Me neither, but,I saw it posted in the Android News forum here @ A/F earlier today & took a look.
I have a freebie 200 GB Card on the way courtesy of LG,so,my days of shopping for storage are over (for now)........

That LG V10 is one sexy piece of tech. ooh la la :p

As has been noted several times in this thread, the largest currently available microSD card on the planet is made by SanDisk, it's 200GB in capacity, and it's quite expensive overall (meaning for the average Joe that just wants some more storage space who would do better with a 32GB for $10 or a 64GB for $20 these days. The information about the SanDisk 200GB is here basically:

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/sandisk-releases-200gb-microsd-card/

and as plainly noted in the text:

This spring, SanDisk revealed the world’s first 200GB microSD card which, at the same time, just so happens to be the highest-capacity microSD card on the market./quote]

No offense but if anyone thinks SanDisk could magically increase the potential storage 8.25x in a matter of months just needs to put the phone down, take the microSD card they bought and got ripped off in the process, and swallow it. :D

Also noted in this thread is that SD Insight app on the Play Market that will yank out the technical details of a microSD card when inserted into an Android device.

Pretty sure that poster with the so-call 2TB card for $48 (yeah, right) would be fairly surprised to discover the funky nature of exactly how the card was modified so it shows as a 2T card.

Anyway, 200GB is tops right now, probably will be for another year or so before "the next big jump" occurs.

The reason they state that cards only up to 32gb are supported us because cards larger than that come formatted to ntfs format by default, which Android (by default) can't read. All you need to do is format the larger card to fat and it should work no problems
DON'T LIE and Pull shit out your ass if you don't know exactly because you are misinformed already...

64Gb and up is formatted to exFat. I have one, so I should know, get it straight.

I'm certainly not lying, nor am I pulling anything from anywhere. I was simply going by past experience with other members on this forum... ( And from memory to boot ;) )You may be correct, exFat may be the default format, but it's still not formatted to something all Android devices can read by default.

AFAIK All Android devices can detect exFat except for maybe GB and HC I believe that format support was implemented in ICS and above.

Pretty sure this has already been covered.... But, it says 32g supported because lg had the hardware certified on kitkat. The update to lollipop is what allowed the increased capacity. Lg just never spent the cash to have the device recertified.

I find that hard to believe since so many other kitkat rom's and devices I've ran have picked up and detected 64Gb exFat microSD cards?

Therefore by process of elimination why would LG's architecture be anymore different or it's android also.

I highly highly doubt it's a manufactures doing anyways as much as it is google and android's in what version will read what format.

I can and will say don't ever improperly force format any exFat card to Fat32 I done it 3 or 5 years ago to my HD2 and older 64Gb microSD to be picked up and detected in MAGLDR and Windows Mobile 6.5 in order to dual and multi boot android SD builds and then later on the card got ruined, couldn't delete or add anything on it wouldn't even allow a reformat no matter which way I went about it, it just corrupted the card and it was stuck with whatever was on it at the time.
