Root Ext4 Partition confirmation

I partitioned my SD card with ROM Manager... 512 and 0 steps...
It just rebooted into recovery... how do I confirm it has been done?
 
flash a rom with a2sd support and check using the app with quick system info.

Or download gparted and check with that. This is a better app for partitioning anyway
 
Right.

I just downloaded GParted, put it on a disk
rebooted on it, took me 3 different computers to get it to work

once it launched it set up some stuff for like 10 minutes, then had me choose a couple things, then set up some more shit for 10 minutes
ultimately it went into some kind of error loop with random numbers and it "giving up" blah blah for about 30 minutes

So I said, "screw this, just gonna use Rom manager". And I did, and it took me a good... 2 minutes.

Reminds me of the time where I had a new computer, installed Ubuntu and spent a good 4 hours trying to find a driver for my internet card... In the end I still hadn't find one so I installed Windows Vista (yep) and it automatically detected my card in about 5 seconds.


Linux is GREAT.
 
well no its slightly different, your installation of gparted was probably naff
after having experience in rom manager, gparted etc i can categorically tell you that rom manager is not good as
1. it doesnt align your partitions and if your rom is not bootable or you need to change to a new card on a rom that is a2sd (wont be able to boot without ext partition) it makes it a complete nightmare

2. rom manager makes ext2 partitions not 3 or 4

i would seriously look into why you are having issues with it as you might need it one day
for now though i would install amonra recovery 2.0.1 and use that to partition or confvert the ext partition to ext3

all I have to do for gparted to work is to download it and burn it on a cd, there's like nothing I did that could have gone wrong

it didn't work on 3 computers that are in perfectly good condition, which can only mean that the problem comes from gparted

So sorry to say but formatting my SD card with a barely even stable linux mini distro... Doesn't seem very appealing to me.

worked for me 1st time lets me boot on 5 different machines
theres nothing fancy about it and it doesnt take 10mins installing stuff. it gets into gparted in about 30-40 seconds

maybe the img was corrupted before you burnt it?
i use the usb method anyway
 
unetbootin to make a bootable usb of it
i dont know if it supports ext4 as i use ext3 and havent looked for 4 support

Now my phone says "Blank SD card" and it just won't work at all. :) :) :) :) :)

I had a problem with unetbootin and universal usb installer last night, the computer would just hang on the BIOS screen. The fault seems to be with the usb stick as I got unetboot to work through the card reader. The stick works as a drive.

when you partition a card you lose data
when you say wont work at all ? ......
 
i set up a ext 4 using g parted

quick system info says i have a2sd enabled with 1 gig of space for apps

BUT

i just moved my SD card apps back to internal memory and the internal storage has gone down

have i done something wrong

help?!

It's unusable, I can't put files/folders in it, I can't download items to it, it isn't recognized by my PC when I plug it in.

Don't worry - I did it all again with Rom Manager. I just shouldn't have bothered with that Gparted bull*** again. ;)
 
good for you, everyone but you can use that BS as you call it


i would recommend using amonra recovery 2.0.1 instead though (flash it using unrevoked)
this has partitioning built into the recovery and aligns correctly.
only snag is that old clockwork backups wont work and vice verse

it will save you some pain in the future if you need to switch sdcards on a rom that is a2sd
