extended battery issues

I bought the Motorola brand extended battery and it didn't work with my bionic. When I got it I put it in my phone and nothing happened so I charged it for like an hour and a battery with a question mark in popped on the screen. I even tried hard boot with the volume up/down and hold power to boot it up and still nothing. Why would it do that?

You should let it fully charge before using it and make sure your using the charger and not a computer to charge it the first time but that wouldn't cause the " battery with a question mark" issue.
I would return the battery for a replacement.
