Help external keyboard?

My OTG cable works fine for mounting USB thumb drives. I thought I had seen people reporting success with hooking up external keyboards, so I tried a small keyboard, but nothing happens when I type on it. The SGS2 shows a USB device connected. The keyboard's caps lock and scroll lock indicators stay lit up, and can't be changed, so that's bad. I tried with USB debugging mode on and off, but it's the same either way. Then I tried a Microsoft Sidewinder keyboard, but it appears the SGS2 can't supply the necessary power, so it didn't work either. It also froze my phone, and I had to remove the battery to reboot. Any suggestions with getting an external keyboard

Maybe a Blue Tooth wireless unit? I've not looking into this much but if I were to get the HDMI adapter would look into it more myself.

Actually, I'm trying to avoid bluetooth. I'd trying to simply plug in a standard USB keyboard using the OTG USB host cable. Other people have reported this works for them, so I'm curious what they've done to make it work.

They didn't need to do anything, if the keyboard is going to work it will be plug n play. Check my thread at XDA, people say which ones are working for them there (from memory Logitech ones are the ones that seem most compatible).

I've used BT keyboards with the SGS2, as well as both BT & USB mice. With the USB OTG functionality, it helps to plug the USB device into the OTG adapter first, then plug the OTG adapter into the SGS2.

It could also be the case that the keyboard draws more power than the SGS2's OTG interface can provide; try a number of different USB keyboards if you can.

have tried an Apple wireless keyboard on my S2 and it works perfectly!

haven't tried the magic mouse tho.

Hi,

I tried several USB keyboards using an "ET-R205UBEGSTD" USB-OTG connector on my Galaxy Note GT-N7000. None worked.

However, after rebooting the phone with the keyboard connected, it worked.
Hope this helps anyone.

UPDATE: When I connect the receiver of my Microsoft Wireless keyboard/mouse
7000, this does not work. Afterwards normal USB keyboards also don't work. After reboot normal keyboards work again.

USB wired mouse from Microsoft does also work.
Using USB hubs does not work so far, also tried using an usb hub with external power, no success.

Hey, that's cool.
I have an old Packard Bell Model No 9201 wired USB keyboard, which has an extra USB socket on it. I connected a wired Microsoft USB mouse to that socket. No both the keyboard and the mouse work at the same time.

Edit: it does not work very stable. Just had an unexpected reboot of the phone.
