Root Extremely poor reception with CM 10

Hello again everybody,

I have been using CM10 for a couple of weeks now and I have seen my signal service degrade. It's to the point where I can barely get any bars any more. I live in a city and I have been on sprint for years. I haven't ever had issues like this before. What can I do? Do I need to flash my radios? Do I need to reset my PRL?

Thanks again, you guys are great.

Hello!

What I have heard a number of times is that custom roms will show your true signal strength versus the stock rom which will represent that you have a better signal than you really do.

There is the possibility that sprint has been working on the towers in your area, as well. have you called and asked them or do you know that your signal is worse than those of other LTE owners nearby?

There is an app, Open Signal, I believe it is called, you can use to test your signal and get a representation of where towers are and the like.

Have you had trouble making calls or dropping calls that you didn't have before going on this rom?

Just wondering, on cm10, do you even have the option to update your PRL? please forgive my uncertainty. On roms where you can update, I have heard the preferred method is to update prl and then profile, in that order.

You could always make a nand of this rom and restore your previous rom and see if things are different signalwise. Were you on a custom sense rom prior to this? Might be a good idea to be on one if you call sprint anyway. Being rooted isn't supposed to be a problem but being on stock like rom might make things less complicated.

When's the last time you updated your profile/PRL?

With all the network vision stuff going on it's a good idea to do it regularly.

CM10 has fewer bars in the signal image, so it may seem the Rom has poor reception. Count the bars on the signal image, then restore a sense Rom, and count those. Sense has more bars.

Absolutely update PRL then profile, IOWA is right, network vision is wreaking havoc on signal in some areas.

Remember you'll need to restore a sense Rom, update, then restore CM10. :)

I've noticed on cm10 before that the bars dont do a very good job of displaying where your signal truely is. I have shown only 2 bars before but when I went into an app like opensignal maps it showed me I was at 75% signal strength.

Unfortunately, past performance doesn't guarantee future success. What I mean by this is with all of the changes going on with Sprint right now and their network vision enchancements, many are seeing network changes in their area. Call Sprint and see if they are doing network maintenance or upgrades in your area.

I wish it was a simple as your suggestions but my service is almost non existent. I live in a city and my service has always been flawless and exceptionally quick. It seems like there isn't a way to reset my PRL in CM10. What's the easiest way to do this?

Thanks!

Overview of the process:

Make a nandroid in recovery, flash a sense based ROM (meanrom, viper4g, ect), update PRL and profile in the settings menu, restore the cm10 nandroid from recovery :D

If you would like more detailed instructions on any of those steps, let us know! :)
