I made 2 claims within a 12 month period and now they will not insure my phone until a year is up. You can make a claim a year no problem, god forbid 2. Let's hope i can keep my lg connect from getting lost stolen or damaged. 4 years of paying for insurance to get screwed over in the end. All insurance companies are the same, too many claims and your dropped no matter how good of a customer you are :/

6$ extra a month 99$ deductible on the LG connect/Esteem and Samsung Attain.

ok so what you are basically saying is if nothing goes wrong then the course of teh year they charge you 6 bucks a month

12 x 6 = 72 dollars a year

now for each claim you pay them 100 dollars. ergo if you claim twice like you said you paid them 200 bucks for claims... meaning for the length of a 12 month period you will have paid a total of 272 dollars.

now lets do the math on the phones themselves

im gunna pick the attain/connect cuz its teh cheaper ones of what you mentioned. each connect/attain is currently valued at 250 dollars (plus tax and all that other crap) so should you have lost 2 of these then it normally would have cost you 500 dollars plus taxes.

500-272 = $228

so 228 dollars is how much you would have spent to replace those two phones if you didnt have that "crappy company". instead tahts teh cost they ate because every insurance company is just that, a company... its not a non profit organization. they are there to make money and so far from your story, they have lost it already... well shouldn't say that cuz they never lose money... they will just recoup it elsewhere prolly with higher fees on everyone.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am in the insurance industry.

That being said, the price you are quoting is probably with a 2 year contract. Without, it is much higher. My daughter has a Samsung Stratosphere. On contract, it was free. Without, it was $499. (Worth "free" price....). She is in high school. Chance of loss, theft or damage is quite high. $6.99 per month insurance, $100 deductible. If lost /damaged year 1, $84 + $100. Worth the insurance. Lost/damaged year 2: $168 + $100. Still worth the insurance.

After year 2, when she is eligible for upgrade, insurance is no longer worth it.

In this OP's case, assume he got phone for free on contract. (Worth $250 off contract seems cheap, but we'll go with that....) OP loses phone in month 4. He/she paid $7 x 4 months ($28.00) for insurance. Puts in a claim, Asurion charges them $100 deductible for new phone. Now phone just cost him $128. REMEMBER THAT WITHOUT INSURANCE THIS WILL COST $250 (assuming this price without contract is correct ....) Loses phone #2 in month 11. Now that paid $7 x 11 months ($77.00) for insurance. Asurion charges him $100 deductible. Now has paid $177 + $128 ($305) for this phone.

Assuming he bought phone without contract, he would have paid $250. No insurance. Lost month 4. Pays another $250. Lost month 11....another $250...$750 so far...Are where I am going here?

As Chris Rock says, "insurance is 'in case sh*t happens'"

For those who never put in a claim, on a cell phone, 2 years is enough. (Few of us keep phones longer than that anyways....I am one who does....)

So.....on this OP's case, although they are annoyed with Asurion, they came out ahead of the game.....

you make a valid point but i always had the most expensive metro phone. i cant afford a 300 hit if i were to loose it.

pretty much to sum up thread. insurance companies suck if you make to many claims your done, no matter length of time with company.

Dude. If they're still taking your $6 a month then that should mean you're still insured. :l

no every time i go to pay my bill i ask if i have insurance, they said no. if i put the 6$ on anyways and ask for insurance, it is just going to be credited to my account. thus what made me call insurance company, and start this thread.

Again, I am in the insurance field. The insurance company takes money, they will cover you. Going with a homeowners policy: You purchase policy. Pay deposit. State home is worth $500,00.00 Premium is based on that. Within 60 days, insurance company does an inspection. Home is worth 1,500,000. Read your policy! Most homeowners policies covet FULL REPLACEMENT COST. So, they are now afraid that you bought a policy fraudulently. (House Burns down....Full Replacement cost is 1.5 million, but you paid for 1/3 of that.

Sorry...hit send to soon.. In this case, insurance company has 2 options. Get off the line & claim material misrepresentation, or increase premium. After 60 days, they are stuck. Fraud is rampant. Also, insurance is at will. They may be stuck for a year, but can drop you after that. And they often do. Make claims, premiums go up. I know people who "broke pipes" in basements every time they wanted to redecorate. Paid $1,000 deductible, company redid basement. Finally was dropped. New company is higher rates, and mandates a $5,000 deductible.

However, in this case, company is NOT taking money from OP. No insurance given. Asurion tells you outright they pay 2 claims per year. As my earlier post on this shows, the OP came out ahead, not the insurance company!

Sherri,
This is a forum for a MetroPCS phone. They are a prepaid service provider. There are no contacts and all phone prices are retail. There are often rebates offered, but that should not change your example.

Like you said, prepaid or not...OP asks every month if he has insurance. They say no. OP pays extra. (Assume a $30.00 prepaid plan....) This month, OP pays $36.99....$30 x 12 is $360 per year. If the OP keeps prepaying knowing he doesn't have insurance, Metro is crediting his account (so he gets 2 months "without making a payment"

I have insureds call me telling me they had a claim. I have to tell them that if you don't pay for insurance, they wont pay claim. If insurance company drops you due to claims, you can replace coverage. In this case, 2 covered claims per year is stated. They paid. OP came out ahead. Can't blame Asurion for this. (Other things, such as replacing w/a lower end phone, yes....but not this...)
