Root Fa19 update

Today I just got an fa19 update. Can I download it? Wasent sure if it would mess anything up with phone being rooted and with honeybread4.

Yes it can mess up the phone being on a non stock rom. It is messing up stock phones so wouldn't want to mess with it at all being on a non stock one.

You could always go into CWM and do a backup and then try it and see if it works it works but if not then you can always restore.

I got this update prompt just now as well. However I only have the phone rooted. I have no custom rom or anything. Just rooted android with a few stock apps removed. Safe to update or stay the hell away from it anyway? :P

You have several options .

You can download the update but you will need to root your phone again.

You can use Odin to flash a Rooted version of the update .
DOWNLOAD FA19 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 by Koumajutsu

You can use Autostarts to disable the update .

I personally chose to use Autostarts because the update messed with my radio signal and 3g .

Others have had decent results with the update and others have not . The update has been known to brick phones . If you choose to update , I would use Koumas rooted version in the Odin thread .

Wow thanks for your quick reply. :D

I heard that Samsung came out with a second FA19 bug that fixes some issues like the signal problems. Does the Koumas rooted version in odin thread have the latest FA19?

Right now my signal is mostly stable but slow (despite rooting the phone, doing the PRL change to the Sprint PRL that I my sister's Galaxy II is using which is 60685, and doing the 4GV and proxy settings tweaks from both of the 3G boost threads I found)

I'm wondering if this update may improve that. (also note slow speeds also present even at late night when there is low cell phone traffic on the towers) I have yet to see it ever go out of 3G mode, so it's so far has always displayed the 3G symbol at the top of the screen.

Though the Odin update wipes out the phone's data, so it's going to be a pain, even with the Titanium Backup app having my phone backed up and from the sounds of things it looks like I would have to repeat my 3G speed tweaks afterwords as well. :P

lol perhaps I should have held off on rooting it in the first place. I rooted the phone just hours after getting it off eBay and this phone is the first Android phone I've ever owned. My previous phone was a Blackberry Curve 8530. That phone got similar speeds to what my new one is getting right now. Going on just my second day owning this phone. :D

One thing I do recall is that I had to update to Gingerbread when I first got the phone. Apparently the eBay user who owned the phone must have never bothered to update it.

Must have been a total Android noob. I was even able to use a basic file recovery tool to undelete all of his videos and photos from the 8GB sd card that I did not expect to come with the phone as the listing didn't mention an SD card...I guess all he did was use Windows Explorer to delete his photos and stuff (appearently the guy likes to go to concerts and drag races....)which in this day and age is completely insufficient when preparing a phone for resale.... :P

I did that just to see where the phone has been prior to me getting it. He was lucky it didn't get sold to someone with more questionable intent... :D

I'm off to bed and will ignore the phone's update prompt for now (odd that it took a full day and a half before telling me about the update...lol great timing I was running through threads discussing this update and bam, it pops up....great timing. I might have made the mistake of running the update if it prompted me early after I rooted it as I have not gone through all the information about it and stuff until early today.

I believe Koumas rooted version is the original update . Note that it is a working version so the Boost update FIX would not be needed .

I've used Titanium to restore apps after flashing different roms in the past but had better results, performance wise, installing them manually . Titanium works sometimes and sometimes restoring a backup will make my phone lag . ;)

Lol I agree...titanium is a sweet tool...but when switching roms I try to as often as I can just to fresh installs of all my apps..after switching roms ..you become so fast at setting everything back up anyway..usally about an hour and a half..to flash ..reinstall apps tweeks..get everything working right:D

I'm flashing the phone now via Odin as the thread prescribes. Worst case scenerio I just flash back to stock anyway. :D

I've read that Titanium Backup can cause problems when restoring apps. I haven't really installed that many apps, so I'll just reinstall them all manually.

I used the un-rooted version and will re do the one click root method as I want to avoid using CWM right now as I'm not into using custom roms. :D

EDIT: The one click root I used don't work anymore. (permission denied errors) I'll just reflash to the pre rooted one then. :P

Yeah, I've read that the one click root won't work on FA19. You'll need to flash Koumas rooted version if you want the update

Ok after getting FA19 up and running the Market app would constantly get network errors. It would just sit at the loading screen when I go to search for an app or some other random action within the Market. So for now I've reverted to EJ06 stock and will re-root it and go the AutoStart route to get rid of the FA19 prompt.

Will wait for it to finish autoupdating the stock apps before I go to root it.

I've just not tried AutoStarts...however when I go to disable it, it says it can't change the state and not being rooted. (Of coarse I am rooted since I have SuperUser and got other root required apps to work fine).

SuperUser prompts me the first time and I tell it to allow root access for AutoStarts, and it seems to remember it correctly too the next time I run it, but the app still says it's unable to change the state of that service. This is starting to annoy me... :P

Any alternative app out there that will disable the updater? Once I get everything settled I am planning on generating a Odin recovery of it so if Android crashes or goes to s***, I can restore it and keep my installed apps. (the ones not on SD card anyway which is pretty much most of them)

Currently I've settled with using the EJ06 (stock version no root) and have rooted it with the ACS One Click Root script.

I don't know of any other app that will disable the update bro . Autostarts should work if you wipe data and uninstall using Titanium . Reboot, then re-install it and make double sure you allow SU access when prompted .

Honestly , If I were you I would install CTMod 3.2 and one of the Kouma Kernels . I installed CTMod 3.2 for testing last night and it's bad 2 the bone . Bloodawn worked his magic on this one . If you did this , I don't think you would regret it .

CM7 is also an awesome ROM , I run both of them . It's just that CTMod is a little more user friendly if you're new to installing different ROMs. CM7 has all kinds of options and if you don't know what you're doing , you can really screw your phone up . :D

Success! I uninstalled Autostarter and instead installed it from the Market instead (as I had previously downloaded it and placed on the SD card to install it manually).

It then successfully disabled the updater service. :D

As for updating to CTMod 3.2....I don't know, it appears to change the overall appearance of Android and I like it as it is now and I might have to reinstall all my apps again... :(

Ok I gave CTMod a go and found that connection issues were made worse. Slow data speeds were so slow that many apps would give me a connection time out error.

I've reverted back to EJ06 and later re-rooted. As a result of the CTMod install process ClockWorkMod is installed now. I have backed up an image of the the phone as I have it now so can revert to my phone's current configuration.

Seems like it's getting proper speeds now. I've compared it to what my sister's Epic 4G phone gets and it's about the same. I did change the "Secondary HA IP" setting to match the one my sister's Sprint phone was using and noticed that it seems to have increased speeds a tiny bit. So I'm guessing my area just doesn't get good speeds for anyone. :(

But at least it's stable now and if I go out of town at some point in the future, I might get faster speeds.

I'm applying some of the 3G speed tweaks to my sister's phone to see how fast it can really go in comparison to the speed tweaks on mine. (minus the build.prop changes as I won't be rooting the phone since the phone isn't mine. :P )

Then I may get a better picture of how my speeds should be in my area. :D

Installing CTMod wouldn't give you connection issues. Although the FA19 update, which has absolutely nothing to do with CTMod, could.

That's correct . I installed FA19 and my 3g and radio signal all but vanished . I've since Odined back to EJ06 and all is as it should be .

Ok did a speed test late tonight and got speeds near 1.2Mbp/s download peak (averaged 900k or so). So at this point it's working good now and I'll keep it as it is now. :D

So slow speed is probably just network congestion on a crappy tower. I live in a small town so there is likely only one or two towers in my area. (so as such no PRL file on the planet will help. But the usual Sprint PRL will help when ever I go to other places)

CTMod's interface didn't appeal to me. Next time I do upgrade is when Samsung decides to make a new modem firmware update that doesn't bork 3G connectivity. :P

Turns out my sister's phone has 4G (which was turned off when I was using it. They play with their phones much more then I do, so I guess they do it to save battery power?). They get near 2mbp/s with their 4G, which is kinda slow in comparison to how 4G should be. God I hate this town.... :P

Thanks for all your help. I'll check by when any thing new happens. Turns out my Prevail was a good choice. The other newer "better" phones my family has appears to be more of a hassle just to root them. (lol Epic 4G Touch needs Odin just to root...fail. :D)

That and I have no desire having a phone large enough to compete with the early 90's cell phone brick. :P Looks like large phones are trying to make a come back. :P

Hello! I am new to android, don't know to much about it. my prevail is rooted, one click root I think, I found this video in YouTube, step by step, easy to root. Any way, I am not sure if would be a good idea to apply the FA19 update, I've tried to install it many times but seems to be an error, you know, the recovery window with the yellow triangle, something concerning the E: cache partion or whatever:confused:. if this update really necessary? would this update mess with my phone? is root has to do with it? would the root be a problem for future updates? I don't want to mess with 3g signal or even brick my phone, it is working just fine, so far.:)

Thank you! TB would be the solution? can you provide a link to download CTMod 3.2?
I appreciated it, once again thank you.
