Face recognition unlock

Hi guys
How secure is the HTC one face recognition software to unlock the phone? Seams to work really well with my face and block a couple of the others I've tried, is it a real option or just a gimick?

I also need to change a program allocation. One of my apps needed to show a location on a map, I have several map apps and I assigned it to the wrong one and marked it as always use this app. Can I change this?

Thanks Dave

I wouldn't have thought it was secure at all and might be rather temperamental. If it's just using the camera. Show it a photograph of the owner, that'll probably unlock it. A gimmick I think. Although if the phone is stolen, the thief probably won't have a photo of the owner. Also what happens in poor lighting conditions, how well does it deal with that? Or if you wear glasses, and you try unlocking it without your glasses on for a change. Or if you grow a beard or moustache, etc..

Yeah aparently a pic unlocks it. Gimmick

For the map, if i understand you, go to settings, applications, find the map youve set as default (the one you dont want) and hit "clear defaults" then next time you should get the choice again

A picture can unlock it. However, I recall one of the Android updates made face unlock more secure by requiring you to blink. I use it on my tablet and it works most of the time. There are issues if there is a bright light behind you. For instance, if I hold the tablet on my lap and look down on it, ceiling lights will interfere with the face recognition. I have to ensure that the background has no bright light source.

I don't use it on my phone as face unlock is slower than using the pattern lock. I can enter the pattern very quickly and faster than the face unlock. The size of the tablet screen and its sensitivity makes pattern unlock not work as well. That is why I use face unlock and if that fails, I just enter the pin.

Thanks guys.
Cleared the map default, so all good now.

As for the face unlock, it works really quickly 90% of the time... Doesn't work too good in low light (no surprise there!). I'm happy enough with how it works but I was just a bit concerned how secure it is. Maybe I just need a feel more people to try and unlock it to confirm for myself.

Thanks

What id do is use it to prevent your kids/friends from unlocking and fraping you but not to protect important stuff

The order the screen unlock options are listed in Settings/Security is pretty much their order of security. Facial recognition is designed for ease of use; better than nothing and less likely to be forgotten than a pattern. :)
