Help Facebook for Android 1.3 - battery bug / constant partial wake use

No problem for me with facebook on 2.2, though I am using a custom ROM so perhaps its the Sense causing problems?

Just to check also, what's the sync frequency you've all set in facebook? I have mine at never so it only syncs when I tell it. Might be worth changing that and see if it effects it.

Already checked and that made no difference to me either

There's a status update on the Android Facebook page saying they've identified the problem and are working on a fix :)

I've been checking my partial wake usage all day long and funnily enough FB is barely making a dent. Go figure...

me too! also using 3g watchdog and it had eaten 260mb of data in 3 hours!!! don't know wether it was the settings in there but it was a heck of a drtain!! uninstalled

Ive installed 1.3.1 and now the facebook widget wont work, just get a message on the screen...Problem Loading Gadget.

:-(

Ive installed 1.3.1 and can confirm it works fine now and is no longer working constantly in the background as a service.

Mine just automatically updated!! argh!

When I first installed v1.3.0 I noticed it had set it to auto install in its Market Downloads entry (new 2.2 feature). It's probably worth checking this and deselect it if you prefer.

has anyone noticed that its added something to the People app??, when i click on that and click menu then view, i have a strange line that reads... com.facebook.auth.login never saw that before the update??

I hadn't noticed this, because I uninstalled it before I looked in here, but the official Twitter app added a similar thing to the People app's View option before it was updated and then it correctly displayed as Twitter instead of something like com.twitter.auth.login, so based on this I would say it's a problem with the way they've coded the app.

I had this too, but it keeps increasing, I found that contats was taking up 70meg in the end so I wiped it (cleared data) and downgraded the Facebook app.

I have now re-installed it but done the following;

- Use the android app (1.3.1) for the widget and set it to not sync contacts, only feeds. (this removes it from the people app)
- Use the HTC Facebook app to sync contatcs and link those in the people app.

It seems to work by not draining the battery and keeping ram useage down.

Thanks for the suggestion, my contact storage folder is only at 9.86mb, when you clear this data does it wipe all your contacts?? as i dont fancy importing them all again, also at 9.86mb it doesnt seem that large, as i have 130 gmail contacts and 196 fb contacts.

^This. For each contact I have, when I come to link them to their Facebook account in people, under suggestions there is between 2 and 6 lines (that I presume are just identical repeats) that read their name and com.facebook.auth.login
People app seems really messed up now, after 2.2 and new FB update, I preferred it before where I had my phone contact (transferred all of them from my old Nokia to HTC) and then just linked ONE facebook account - mainly to get the picture next to the contact and extra info (email, etc.)

Just turn them off view at least then you dont have to see them, and also check the size of your contacts folder.

Removing data from contacts storage won't remove the contacts in 'People' (phone/gmail contacts), it only removes facebook and twitter contacts etc, and all the data that comes with them like profile pics.

I cleared out my data this week and only the Facebook contacts were deleted, but Facebook friends remained in the FB app and my gmail contacts remained unchanged.

If you follow what I did a few posts up, you get the best of both worlds, no Facebook (1.3.1 android) cock-ups in the people app and the pictures by the HTC app next to your contacts.

Recently been fixed in the newer update, just checked my partial awake an it seems fine to me. Check the market for another update.

I updated this morning after uninstalling.Checked the usage using spare parts a few hours ago,Facebook draining my battery again.****ing useless.

I don't use Facebook much but it's stopping the ability for me to press update all in the market as obviously I don't want the Facebook update if it's still ****ing about.

Well, it's been 4 hours since I installed the "fixed" update. I deliberately left the phone idle, according to Spare Parts, Facebook is still the biggest partial wake usage app, however, my battery has gone down 8% in 4 hours, which is about 2% higher compared to last night. With the margin of error of Juice Defenders charts, varying conditions and my eyeballs. I'm not 100% convinced, but it seems OK for me.

I installed the latest update yesterday. Went to bed with at least 75% battery left, got up this morning and the phone was dead. Ran out of battery and shut down. Facebook still got problems for anyone?
