Facebook - Update

phone doesn't sleep with the new update. Didn't google make a statement saying that the developers need to work harder on ensuring the app is not running all the time. Google must work harder than this.

well yeah. I figured the phone would go to sleep after the screen shuts off. But since FB is never set to sync for me, and it's not set to auto update...i really dont think i have that problem. The issue is when people exit facebook, it still stays running but if you kill the app when done, your phone should go to sleep. I'm not saying this is acceptable, i'm just saying that is how to get your phone to sleep. Anyway, i uninstalled it because i wasnt a fan of it anyway. I dont use facebook a lot. I just installed it to update my EXISTING contacts only, and then i uninstalled. My contact pictures still remained.

I don't use the application often, I typically use the mobile site off of a bookmark, but afterwards I just kill it; I don't sync to any contacts either. Not had any issues! I also did amarryat's little test to make sure.

Check out the link that I posted: News: Facebook 1.3 Not Releasing Partial Wake Lock Geek For Me – Sprint Evo 4g & CDMA Hero

Just having Facebook installed on your phone isn’t going to cause the Wake Lock. It isn’t getting set until you actually run the application and log in. From there on your phone isn’t going to sleep properly until you restart your phone or until Android kills the task.

So I just tested this and the article is accurate. I hadn't opened the app since rebooting yesterday and the phone was sleeping just fine (see my previous screenshots from earlier this morning).

About 20 minutes ago I opened the Facebook app and then closed it. I checked my Up and Awake times and wrote them down, then let the phone time out.

15 minutes later I turned the phone on and both my Up and Awake times had increased by 15 minutes, even though (if it was sleeping properly) it should have only been an additional 30 seconds or so of Awake time.

I rebooted the phone, checked Up and Awake time again. Both were at a little over a minute. Checked again 5 minutes later and it's sleeping properly again, Up Time was at 6 minutes and Awake Time at 1 minute.

So like the article says, just having the app isn't enough to cause a problem. But once you open it, it keeps the phone awake until you reboot the phone (or manually kill it, but lots of people are reporting that the app will restart itself after they kill it).

Just posted on the FB For Android page...

Facebook for Android

Hi folks, a number of you have commented on seeing a battery drain on your device since installing the new Facebook for Android app. We have identified the bug that is causing this battery drain and are working on a fix now. As soon as the patch is ready, we will push out an update. Thanks for the quick feedback and for your patience as we get this fixed! about an hour ago

So weird i'm using it on and off all day i never killed the service and mine runs smoothly, with no extra use... not sure what i've got different to everyone else :S

Would be nice to see the update fix soon. I too like the new interface but I don't like having to force close something I will reopen again later. I think I can manage avoiding FB on my phone during my "not at home" hours. But I won't say I'll like it!

Well at least they are working on a fix. According to there Facebook page.

Welcome to Facebook

I just got a notification that five of my installed apps had updates. Facebook was one of the five.

I updated four apps.

For what it's worth, I installed the update when it came out a couple of days ago and I have had no battery issues at all. I have it set to sync only once a day though. If i feel like checking it more often I sync it manually within the app.

I also have Weatherbug.

I also let ATK kill stuff every half hour.

One funny thing i notice is that the new FB app shows up as "College" in the ATK running apps list. Weird.

Refresh Interval: 1 Hour
Notifications: Active
Messages: Active
Sync Contacts: Don't sync

Those are my settings, I don't use HTC Facebook, only this app, and my battery is fine, and in my usage it never shows unless im on for long time, and my battery seems to be holding on...

Those are my settings too.

Looks like they fixed it:

Edit: Ummm.....it's still not sleeping!!!

I hate it. Why do I have to see all of the pictures at the bottom EVERY TIME I open it? There should at least be an option to turn that crap off.

Yeah they might've fixed the battery drain issue, but what about my fbook app force closing when I click friends!?!?

I think I fixed the FC on mine by logging out and logging back in after the update. No FC after logging back in. Also, it appears that the awake bug is fixed on mine as well.

Wow that was pretty quick.
Hopefully that fixes it , I just downloaded it . Love the 2.2 one click update for all AWESOME

I updated the app then rebooted the phone. Opened the app, checked Friends, closed app.

I just checked, Up Time is 1:04:20 and Awake Time 7:52.

Looks like everything is back to normal.

for FC on friends....DONT USE SYNC. also open friends and leave the phone alone. like set it down and let it load the friends list. Then once it does that close out. it will take a moment for bigger friends lists to load i found. that fixed the FC for me

hmm. I updated it with the newest fix, rebooted, let my phone sleep for an hour, and was met with a 100% run time still. Uninstalled. Partial wake usage was still all the facebook app. I'll try again and let it run all night.

loaded without sync. setup my refresh and then backed out of app. FB no longer in running programs in System Panel. looks like its fixed :)
