Factory Data Reset

Hi All-
My google email and google chat isn't working properly. It forces close every time I open it. Verizon wants me to do a factory data reset, will I lose everything if this happens? Will I lose all my apps? All of my contacts that I connected to facebook which their photos? Please let me know if I should do this or not?

yes you will lose it all. i would avoid a factory reset at all cost, but sometimes it is inevitable. what problems are you having exactly.
 
I did it. Yes, you do lose everything that is not on your SD card. Once you load the apps again, the pics come back for facebook. You will have to redo all of your settings again though including ring tones, notifications, etc. You may also notice some of your apps are not on the market anymore due to them not being compatible with the latest software update.
 
You can backup most all you stuff including contacts. If you know your way around the phone it will take roughly 30 minutes to get it back the way you had it.

Do you get any specific error messages when things are closing?
 
Like stated above, you'll lose everything. What I recommend is download aTrackDog.

aTrackDog will keep track of your downloaded apps and find updates for your apps, even when they aren’t even updated for download on the Market yet. You can also Export your App List and when you do a Factory Reset and Import it when you get your phone reset up so you can download them again.

One thing that you will not lose when you do a Factory Reset is your contacts. As long as they are saved under Google (You'll if they are when you open your contacts and it says Google on the right of each contact you have), if it's saved as Phone when you'll lose them. If they are saved as Google you'll need to do a Manual Sync to make sure they are uploaded to your Google Account.

Menu > Setting > Data synchronization > Google > (Uncheck and Recheck Contacts)

This will do a Manual Sync.

Is it possible to back up paid apps you are running, in case they are not available after a firmware upgrade? btw thanks for the great info.
 
I recommend contacting Google about losing paid apps from a reset than are not on the Market any longer. You may be able to get money back, but there is a chance that you wont get your money back if Google goes by the 24 Hour Refund policy.

Find out and get back to us; I'd like to know what they say.

aTrackSD will download your apps onto your SD card for future use.
(Say if an app has an error that you don't like but Overall you like the app, you can download the app onto your SD card and when an update comes for the App it will update it on your SD card and you can Reinstall it)

I have no paid apps, but now I am running at 99% awake time, so I wonder if that is inter-related. Verizon was no help. I think I need to call Google since you can't uninstall and reinstall these apps.
 
thanks everyone for your help! after talking to verizon, going to the store and talking to htc, I had to factory reset my phone. I lost my apps, but made a list first :) and all my contacts came back linked to facebook. I was pretty happy about all that! And now google chat and gmail are working fine!
