Has anyone who still has data issues after 902 update performed a factory data reset? Did it work? I don't want to do it and after to reinstall everything and set my screens back up.
Thx

What do you mean by "data issues"?

Are you using 5.5.886, 5.5.893, 5.9.902, or something else?

Are you root-ed?

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

4g randomly goes out. Only way to get it back is to turn bionic off/on. Airplane toggle does not work for this. 3g works when 4g doesn't and I am in a 4g area.

On 902. Not rooted.

Does it only happen when you are in one area or does it happen in various area (like home and office)?
Do any other people in that area report a similar problem?
Maybe they are working on the tower in the one area you are accessing?
(In my experience, asking about it in the Verizon store will result in a RANDOM answer.)

From your brief description if it is on the Bionic-side it sounds like something is switching it from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only.

This mode is maintained across a power off/power on so I don't see how you can be resetting it.

If you do NOTHING does 4G eventually come back?

You could check Settings | Wireless & network settings | Mobile networks | Network Mode ... the next time it happens and make sure it is correctly set.

It happens randomly but I have 4g where I work and 3g at home. I try airplane mode to try and get my 4g back, but it doesn't work. They only way is to turn off/on. I have powered of holding volume control, pulled Sim card to no avail.

Next thing to try if it persists is factory reset (ugh)...it didn't happen today yet. I never tried doing nothing.

I spoke with Verizon and they said there has been no outages for 4g in my area. They suggested factory reset and they said that would work, but I am skeptical

See if I have it straight ...

Only have 3G at home and it is totally stable.
Have 4G and 3G at work and it randomly drops out of 4g xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 3G.
-- Airplane switch doesn't reset it.
-- Volume up/volume down/power until menu appears and then disappeared doesn't help.
-- SIM card is squarely and firmly seated

... then ...

you power off and power on and it goes back to 4G ... ALWAYS.

...

If you do nothing maybe it will come back.

Maybe they are working on th tower near your office. (I am in a 3G only area. There was a period in November when data was like a yo-yo. t would go out for a few minutes and then come back. This went on for about 10 days. It then stopped and never happened again. I talked to the Verizon store ... it was news to them ... they thanked me for the information.)

Clutching at straws ... you could try a new SIM card.

Is it possible you are in an area that does not have great 4G coverage. Or even because of the building your in the signal is not good. I loss data in some buildings I go into or drop from 4G to 3G. This is nothing really new, before 4G phones would drop from 3G to 1G just going into a house. I know a lot of people on Sprint that loss there 4G going into some apartment buildings.

Very good point.

The oddest one ever noted in this forum when talking about total data drops ... another person noted that his failed if on one end of his desk and worked on the other end of his desk that was 5 feet away. He just happened to notice it.

It is defiantly worth consideration here.

What is the 4G experience of other people in his office I wonder?

With the OG Droid, I wrote up a simple way to use the Android SDK (and in particular, ADB) to make a backup of all your downloaded apps - no need to be rooted. You still have to set everything back up, but most of your phone settings are saved to your primary Google account (provided you have that setting enabled), and things like call logs and SMS logs can be saved by using SMS Backup and Restore and Call log backup and Restore, but other programs and such you'll have to either figure out a way to save your settings, or else set them all up again. And if you're like me, with over 200 downloaded programs on your phone, well....

At any rate, let me go find the post.

OK, this is the post, but before you actually use it, I suppose I should try it - which means booting back to stock side first from my beautiful ICS....ugh.

Here's the link - if you feel comfortable with the commandline and the Android SDK, then cool, otherwise, hold off ad let me test. There may be a few more directories that I can add to try to grab the settings as well....

http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/51037-alternate-way-back-your-apps-your-computer.html

Apps that save settings, etc to custom directories I won't be able to do, unless I write up a batch file that encompasses all possible app data save locations....and that would be very intensive.

The issue with this is do the apps, when reinstalled, retain their market links, so that they will receive android market updates, or are they treated as apps installed from unknown sources?

This is one of the great advantages of the root backup apps like Titanium Backup. If your way works for unrooted phones, that would be great.
