Root Factory-installed applications (Droid X)

Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this was answered. I did a search, but did not see a thread with the information.

I have a Motorola Droid X on the Verizon Network. I love the phone, and have enjoyed playing with all of the available applications. However, I would like to get rid of some of the factory-installed applications, such as Blockbuster, Kindle, etc.

When I go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage -> All, I can see the applications, but when I choose them, the UNINSTALL feature is dark. Is there a way to override this, or am I going to be stuck looking at the logo of a company that is going bankrupt?

You need to root the phone to do that. I will move the thread to DX forum as there you will get more help.
 
If you want to remove apps, and still get the next OTA update, I recommend rooting, installing recovery and create a backup. Then it's probably easier to install a rom, which will have bloat removed and be optimized for speed.

Haha, thanks. Yeah, I found it. I actually forgot that I posted the question for a couple of days!!

I will check into rooting. I'm one of those people who research everything before I do it, so I'm sure I'll get to it sometime in March 2014. :) Or, maybe I'll try it tomorrow when I have a few moments.

Root and then freeze with TB Premium ($6) or Bloat Freezer ($1.50) as others have said. Whatever you do, DO NOT just delete/uninstall them or you will never be able to get OTA updates again.
