I’m clearly not the smartest person in the world, and by no means may I be considered a roofing professional, but even I know that strip is supposed to be removed during installation, and not deferred until demolition…

There is so much wrong with this picture. I assume it is some sort of addition. No railings and structural integrity of the landing access to the interior / exterior door. Why is the right side of the stairwell a different elevation than the left side? Why is the wall and added door so out of plumb? My eyes hurt

Yep, 'bout the only thing in the picture that's reasonable would be the hand rail. The window is off, the light, is that a chair rail in the corner? Never mind it's another door, it doesn't belong there. Even the T bar is out of place.
