Root FAO LeeDroid Users

Particularly the users who had problems with AdFree after flashing 2.3d or a.n.other LeeDroid ROM.

After uninstalling and reinstalling AdFree, do you have something called "hosts" which is crossed out on your backup/restore list?

However, I am yet to find a way of deleting it from this list.

If anybody knows how to get rid of it, or if you also have it, please let me know!

Open Titanium back up, and goto BACKUP/RESTORE, menu-batch- there's a range of un install options there. After that refresh your batch list.

Rather than move the hosts files to my computer, I attempted to delete them.

Initially it removes the hosts file with a line through it from my list in Titanium. However, apps then appear in apps - I used Angry Birds to establish this.

However, the hosts file with a line through it reappears as soon as I update AdFree.

Any ideas?

I seem to have sorted it. Although I shall monitor the situation and update accordingly.

I searched for "hosts" in Root Explorer and the search returned two results. I deleted both of these.

I then uninstalled AdFree and reinstalled it. So far I don't seem to have hosts, or any mention of it in Titanium Backup.

Apologies for talking to myself. It doesn't seem to have worked after all.

As soon as I download AdFree and am prompted to download and install the latest hosts, the hosts with a line through it appears as soon as I refresh the list in Titanium.

I'm baffled. Totally.

As this Host file might be NEEDED, it might be protected and thus un un installable? The add app itself may be the only app with access as you don't want back up providers restoring older backups.

Valid point.

I suppose the only way of working it out is to see if everybody who uses AdFree has this hosts with a line through it in their Titanium Backup list.

Are you using the S-off method or not?

I am therefore only have 1 hosts file (the one that is part of android) and nothing in titanium.

I've got a feeling that this is because its symlinking to a hosts file in data. A bi-product of using AdFree without S-OFF

Just on that point. I s-offed my phone after ad free was installed. I still have sun-link ticked. Any reason to change this?

Using the native hosts file is better because data wipe will wipe the sym linked one but not the system one. No links going on in the background. Theres no real need, but for me I would say it is tidier and a better solution.
