I love my Incredible but if I were buying a phone right now, I'd be getting the Samsung most likely. It's just a awesome phone!
How could you be torn between the Galaxy S and a DX? Side by side screen quality and functionality aren't even in the same ball park IMHO.

They have their pros and cons but overall the Fascinate definitely has the edge. The largest factor for me is the graphics performance of the two phones. The Incredible's 3D prowess is virtually nonexistent while the Fascinate is a 3D powerhouse. It's no small difference either, it's no less than 150-200% faster in 3D. It makes all the difference in the world when you try 3D games on both devices.

I'm not a Sammy fan, but it does look like a very nice phone. If I was in the market I'd consider it, when it drops though we may see dinc prices drop so those looking for a dinc may be in luck if they ever build anymore.
Wonder if ATT mandated no flash just so iPhone would have one thing over the captivate?

Lol! I just wondered. Seems odd they didn't stick a flash on there if for nothing else the marketing standpoint.

The galaxy s without a doubt. It blows the incredible hardware out of the water. The only thing is that it doesn't have a flash but I hear it takes good low light photos and videos

lmao! blow incredible out of the water! Both of their specs are pretty similar, except the screen. It's not THAT far apart.

Quite the contrary and I respectfully disagree with you.

Samsung uses a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. 90 million triangles per sec vs 22 mill on the DINC. I'm not a gamer so but it does effect things like:

Flawless HD video playback
Flawless HD video recording

Also,
The Samsung supports DLNA out of the box
The Samsung's Audio chipset (DAC) is made by Wolfson so the sound quality blows the DINC out of the water. It has a EQ, 5.1 surround sound. It has a real dedicated audio chipset found in higher end mp3 players.
It will have HDMI out via s micro usb cable.
It plays many video files out of the box - divx, wmv, avi. Stock player is better than Rockplayer
Wifi is faster on the Samsung
It has bluetooth 3.0
and the list goes on..

The difference is like the original Droid vs the T-Mobile G1.

What does rendering power have to do with video encoding? Answer: nothing. Pushing more triangles does not imply h.264 encoding/decoding is better. It's a different function altogether. That being said, you do make some other good points in favor of the Fascinate.

If I was up for a new phone soon, I might lean towards the Fascinate, but it just doesn't offer enough to make an on-contract move. I am, however, intrigued for Samsung's 4G offering on Verizon next year.

True the S has more 3d chops, but no harm no foul, since the power needed to sustain the graphics at the higher levels would not be practical, since too much power drain. Unless you will play plugged in.

On the other hand and already pointed out, the Hummingbird kicks the Snap and omap's butt for video and especially audio quality.

If I was in the market I too would give this device a long look as my next phone! That said, can we all just agree that the Sammy looks to be a killer phone and merge this?

I mean how many Incredible vs. Samsung threads do we really need, 3? 4? 5?
At this rate they are going to outnumber Froyo threads! :p

isn't anyone concerned about the lack of rollerball/sensor ball? i love this one button scroll and or click option, and i think it will be missed.
just me?

The Fascinate has the edge in hardware...no doubt about that.

GPU - Better 3D performance
CPU - Faster processor
4.0" screen

But the Incredible as the edge in software.
Sense > TouchWiz or whatever they are putting in it. Sense is both faster and more user friendly.

I hope that HTC makes a 4" screen phone...I think thats the limit for me. Anything else is just too big.

Actually, the GPU has a lot to do with playback (while the CPU handles decoding). For instance, let's say you want to playback a 720P movie, 24-bit color, and 24 frames per second (typical movie specs). That requires a fill-rate of 66.4 megapixels. That also assumes that it's straight playback, and doesn't require any after effects (like the extra work needed to scale it to the 800x480 screen).

The Adreno 200 GPU found on the current Snapdragon SOC has a peak fill-rate of 133 megapixels. That's assuming that absolutely nothing else is going on. It's very difficult to get more than 33% out of a GPU's rated specs, much less push more than 50%. By comparison, the PowerVR SGX 530 (not the 535, or 540) has a peak fill-rate of 500 megapixels (250 on the underclocked original Droid). SGX 540 puts out 1 gigapixel.

Also, don't believe the marketing fluff from Samsung. Actual output of the SGX 540 is 28M triangles/second, not 90M. Their 90M number is likely based on the unrealistic scenario of the CPU and GPU doing absolutely nothing but drawing triangles, combined.

Even though I have an Incredible, I voted for the Fascinate. This assumes it will be as easily rootable as the other Galaxy S phones. The hardware and the SAMOLED screen are too good to deny. But, the Fascinate isn't out and I've had my Incredible since launch so it's not a really fair comparison. There will always be something newer on the horizon (especially at the pace we're going at with Android phones) so it's silly to expect a phone that's months old by now to go toe-to-toe with a phone that isn't out yet.

I have the DINC rooted 2.2. Played with a friend's Captivate this weekend. Will now be getting a Fascinate when it comes out. It's THAT nice.

Fill rate has NOTHING to do with video playback. Fill Rate is related to 3d Performance only. Specifically with rendering polygons. Its how fast a video card can "fill in" the polygons.

Any other info?? Thats one hell of a statement, id love some details.

I have many issues with my dInc which are not being looked at by vzw, and im still within 30.

thanks

I'd stick with the Incredible. I haven't rooted/tried new roms. I don't do gaming, unless you count solitaire and trivia games. Also, when I first started shopping around for a smartphone I looked at what Samsung had to offer as well. The Omnia seemed really laggy and I didn't like the interface (don't know if it was Touchwiz on there, only played with it for a couple minutes before I eliminated it).

If it was Touchwiz on the Omnia that would keep me away, as well as how Samsung has handled their updates in the past (going by the members on these forums and what I read off of tech blogs). If those fears I have mentioned are in fact true, that would make Samsung the 3rd manufacturer I won't buy from (Apple - overhyped, S. Jobs; and Palm - played with the Pre's, didn't get into webOS and the hardware was poor).

It's rumored to be coming out anywhere from late September to mid November, and with what they've supposedly got coming (1.5GHz dual-core phones for the holidays, possibly LTE's by early-mid 2011) I wouldn't try for a switch at this time (upgraded in late april).

I think for the majority of users, they won't notice a lot of difference between the two (by majority I mean of Verizon customers, not of those on these forums).
