It did not take much research to learn the Incredible is far superior!!(IMHO of course!)

If you read this entire thread on this Dinc forum, or read some threads over at the Fascinate forums, it doesn't seem quite the slam dunk that you make it out to be;); instead it comes down to more personal opinion concerning what is important in a phone --- imho of course!:D

Here is a summary of advantages and disadvantages that I have read on this thread and others. Please correct me if I am completely wrong on anything. I don’t own either phone and readily admit to being a neophyte, so take my summary with a grain of salt!:D

Out of Box Experience: Big edge to Dinc. Has Froyo and Google android experience ready to rock out of the box.

Reliable Follow Up Service/Updates: Big edge to Dinc. Dinc upated to Froyo on August 27th. Fascinate is still stuck on 2.1 waiting for an update to Froyo. There is no timetable for the Fascinate update.

GPS: Dinc. A Fascinate out of the box may or may not require some additional fix to acquire fast and accurate GPS lock ons.

Google Voice Navigation: Dinc. Fascinate requires downloading Google maps and navigation, which is very easy if you want to stop there. However, the Fascinate physical search button will still be stuck on Bing and the fix to change the physical search button to Google from Bing requires rooting the phone.

Internal Flash Storage: Dinc has 8 GBs whereas Fascinate has 2 GBS.

Trackpad: Dinc. Fascinate doesn't have one.

Graphical Interface: Dinc. I haven’t seen very many people raving about Touch Whiz. Many Fascinate users switch to Launcher Pro, which is an easy, free download in the marketplace.

Screen: Big edge to Fascinate in both appearance and size, but optimal size is a subjective evaluation. Super Amoled looks great and is a particular advantage in direct sunlight. (As a long distance bicycle racer/trainer, this would be some advantage for me.) Typing is a little easier on the wider screen.

Processor: Fascinate, although some people claim that the experience difference is not discernible.

Battery life: Fascinate.

Camera: Edge to Fascinate. Dinc has more megapixels, but in practice, a lot of people believe that the Fascinate camera takes better photos.

Movie Playback: Big edge to Fascinate.

Swype: Fascinate. It comes preloaded on Fascinate, but I believe Swype can be downloaded for free for the Dinc. I don’t know whether or not the preloaded version works better than the downloaded version.

Signal Pickup Strength: Toss up? I didn’t notice much commentary on this. I would be interested to hear from those who have both phones. My guess is that the incoming signal pickup strength is about the same.

Rooting: Both phones are easy to root and to customize to your personal preferences.

Well having both in my possession for awhile, these are why I decided on the Dinc. I'm not bias in anyway on new technology, (heck, I tether to my ipad all the time :)) and if something comes along that is better, I would switch right away. I like to work smarter not harder.

1. Copy and paste: Is far superior on the Dinc

2. An optional track pad. Dinc (I know that some people don't care about this, but having one as and option is better then not having the option at all.) How else can you fine tune your text? Or change a letter easy on a misspelled word?

3. GPS sucks on the Fancinte. At least it did on mine. Even with the fixes I tried. The Dinc locks on within seconds every time.

These were my big pet peeves, so if the above^^^^ doesn't bother you go with the samsung for the better screen. Just root it to get rid of bing (unless you like bing )

Thanks! I am leaning towards the Dinc, but just wondering, did you try the GPS fixes in the sticky GPS thread under Samsung Fascinate on this website? Did you notice any differences in call reception? Have a good week! Go Stanford Cardinal tomorrow!!

FWIW, as I said before, I had the option to trade and did not. If you root your phone, it will come down to hardware preferences.

I like the optical joystick. I like the smaller screen.

If you dont root, I think Incredible is heads and shoulders a better UI. I use Launcher Pro and still like HTC over Samsung.

As for hardware, I get very good pics and video, my processor is very fast, and my screen (even outside) is good enough.

I was thinking about trading in my incredible for a fascinate before my 30 days are up.

For people that have had the incredible for a while, would you rather keep it or get a fascinate if you had the option?

Before i got the incredible i had the eris. so either one would be a great step forward!
thanks in advance!

The Fascinate doesn't even have 2.2 yet. Samsung has been promising Froyo since before the galaxies S came out in July/August, and still nothing. Granted, I'm pretty confident that both phones will get it eventually, the fact is that HTC stands by their phones, Samsung doesn't. As a former Behold 2 owner, I can attest to that.

As far as what I would do, I'd keep the Incredible. Mostly because I hate, hate, hate TouchWiz (and my previous experience with a Samsung smartphone).

EDIT: I forgot Bing. Samsung should be ashamed for what they did to android with that.

Agree with everything you have just said!!

I had the Incredible, got on a new contract with the Fiance and then got BOGO Fascinates. After a few months I am back to the Incredible because it's just a better phone IMO. Fascinate has a beautiful screen and good battery life but it has its downfalls. GPS sucks, even with the DJ05 or DL09 "update", Apps do take longer to open and a task manager is almost needed because of the less amount of RAM/ROM. i think the biggest downfall for me was the terrible reception. I'm pretty sure the Fascinate had the worst reception out of any phone Ive had in the last 6 years.

YES, I love the scroll sensor at the bottom of my incredible. But the battery sucks
Are you still having battery life issues? I did at first but were solved. Now it lasts all day. Here's what I did after researching the issue:
1. Recalibrate the battery. Run it all the way down then charge it back up. Unplug the charger for a minute and the plug it back in. Finish charging when the status light is green again.
2. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use.
3. Download and install Advanced Task Killer (free). Use it to stop programs you're not using from loading and using air time to update themselves.

That's it. My batter went from 5-6 right after I got it to 15+ hrs! Cheers!

I have a samsung fascinate and im sick of it. Wanting to take it back and exchange for a Incredible. Whats the positives and negatives about the Incredible other than battery life? Would i not regret saying buy to the fascinate and 2.1 for the incredible and 2.2?

I'm actually going to merge this with the Fascinate vs Incredible thread we have in the Incredible forum where there are ALOT of posts giving the positives/negatives of our device versus the Fascinate.

My upgrade is coming up in march and I have been debating between the fascinate and the dinc but I am seriously leaning towards the fascinate, which will be my first touch screen only phone. I am concerned about the ease of the keyboard and adapting to touch screen only. Which phone's keyboard is easier to type on; the fascinate or the dinc?

You can readily change between a wide number of other keyboards. I'm a fan of Swype myself, but there are MANY to choose from. Don't choose an android phone based on it's soft keyboard.

Agree with what Euph said. I use 3 keyboards on my phone, stock HTC_IME, gingerbread (my daily), and swype (for long texts/emails)

Fascinate makes a nasty buzzing sound if you're on a call and the screen turns on (like when you pull the phone away from your face). This buzz is heard by the other end as a really nasty static.

Overall, the Fascinate has been the least polished electronic device I've ever purchased.

I will NEVER buy another Samsung phone. Ever.

The sick thing is that if you contact Samsung about these issues they'll swear up and down that they've never heard about them.

You call Samsung about anything they'll swear up and down that it's the first time they've heard about the problem. You don't even need to mention you're having a problem, they'll still say it.
