I played with a Fascinate at the VZW store the other day, I liked it a lot. The feel of the thing (physically) and the screen were amazing. Not so sure about the UI but it crossed my mind to find someone to trade with. Ive got an Incredible with the AMOLED screen.

I am selling my Fascinate as soon as my DINC arrives tomorrow. Its a given that the F has a bigger and brighter screen.... but in my experience with the phone there are some glaring issues.

  • It takes FOREVER for the GPS to locate you.
  • The overall system is laggy and sluggish. You can count to 3 before the screen changes from portrait to landscape and visa-versa. Apps launch slowly. Its hard to believe there's a 1Ghz processor in the phone.
  • The lack of a notification LED is inexcusable IMO. You have to turn your screen on to see if you have a notification.

I don't have any of those issues, well I did have the GPS issue, but solved that with a couple of marketplace downloads.

I LOVE everything about the screen; size, brightness, richness, everything. I cant wait for the galaxy media player :)

My girl's Vibrant, when fully charged, can last about 28-30 hours.
Did a major double take, and had to reread this. I thought it said something slightly different. LOL

My wife has a Dare for almost 3 years. My wife is not a phone geek at all, she could keep her Dare forever(lol). Her birthday is coming this Oct 24. I have been thinking of updating her phone. I just got an X myself. She likes it a lot. Her niece also has the Dinc and she told me she would like the Dinc. I am also considering the Fascinate which will be out by then.

I had a Dare for nearly that long, purely for the fact that a full battery would last four days! I kind of miss those days just a tiny bit!

Ok, i'm over it!

The galaxy s without a doubt. It blows the incredible hardware out of the water. The only thing is that it doesn't have a flash but I hear it takes good low light photos and videos

Also has god awful call quality, non working gps. I had the fascinate and got rid of it for the incredible and the only thing the fascinate has on the inc is battery life. Other than that the Inc is a great phone too bad samsung neglected the 2 main issues and take forever(if ever release) for updates.

I don't know about anyone else, but as far as I'm concerned, the 3.7" screen of the Incredible is the largest I want to go. The EVO, X, and Fascinate are just too big, and I won't even consider them. Kind of like the difference between a 14.1" laptop, and a 15.4". The 14.1" is the largest I want to go, it's just on the breaking line, anything above it is just too awkward.

Doc

My reason too for choosing the DI.

Hmmm. If I had to choose RIGHT NOW, I might be a little torn. But only because my Incredible has been an Incredible PITA for the past two weeks. But once the new one arrives tomorrow, I might be more swayed to stick with my Inc. Up until the recent problems, which I've been told are hardware issues, it's been perfect!

I do like the slightly larger screen on the Fascinate, though. I had an X, then switched to the Incredible. I always felt like a screen in between the two would be just perfect. :D

I'm considering my first droid and looking at both the Fascinate and dInc. Both look have good features and I've learned a lot from this forum. But since you've got both, what's your pro/con on them? Can you do voice and data silmu on ether one? Which one is easier to see outside? Which UI do you prefer and why? Thx!

I had the amoled inc and the sf has a better screen. The draw back on the sf is that it is running 2.1. Simultaneous voice and data on Verizon is only possible if there is a wifi hotspot to connect to.

I think the bottom line of this whole issue is BOTH are good phones and you cant go wrong with either. Many of the differences are apples and oranges and both phones are capable of a great many things and I doubt many will be bored with either during their 22 months.

For those with two phones. Why??? LOL Did you guys pay through the teeth for the second phone??

I manage a whole office of phones. I set them all up and manage them. The Eris is my wife's. It was a spare freebie. I stopped listing them all in my sig but I've used them all extensively. I have a whole drawer full of WM phones and BB's LOL.

I talked to the VZ store rep today and his feeling is that the SF may not get a software update for whatever reason. Could be stuck on 2.1. Also pointed out that 1. it's not uncommon for new apps not to run on it when they run fine on the Inc. and 2. it is slower to respond to voice commands or find directions even after installing google maps. These aren't necessarily deal breakers but what's your experience?

One other difference I discovered today - SF doesn't see to support Flash content on webs while the Inc does. True? Any way to fix that?

Samsung has been promising 2.2 for the Galaxy S phones since before they came out. And there is alot of talk about them going straight to Gingerbread. Granted, based on their track record (I'm a former Behold 2 user), I won't count on getting either update.

No. The sf runs on 2.1. The only workaround is skyfire which is a poor solution. It will be upgraded directly to 2.3 which is already running on the nexus s. That is essentially the same phone save for the gsm radio.

I was thinking about trading in my incredible for a fascinate before my 30 days are up.

For people that have had the incredible for a while, would you rather keep it or get a fascinate if you had the option?

I am not looking to ruffle any feathers. I just want the honest opinions of people who have had the incredible for a while. The main thing that is pulling me towards the fascinate is the 4 inch screen.

Also, which phone would be more likely to get 2.3? I know it is not a definite thing for any phones, but is samsung good about supporting its phones?

I just really have no idea what i am going to do.

Before i got the incredible i had the eris. so either one would be a great step forward!
thanks in advance!

The Fascinate doesn't even have 2.2 yet. Samsung has been promising Froyo since before the galaxies S came out in July/August, and still nothing. Granted, I'm pretty confident that both phones will get it eventually, the fact is that HTC stands by their phones, Samsung doesn't. As a former Behold 2 owner, I can attest to that.

As far as what I would do, I'd keep the Incredible. Mostly because I hate, hate, hate TouchWiz (and my previous experience with a Samsung smartphone).

EDIT: I forgot Bing. Samsung should be ashamed for what they did to android with that.

It did not take me long to come to that same conclusion. I looked at a few videos and found samsung's UI to be ugly. Really the only pro the fascinate has going for it is an extra .3 inches on the screen and the cons are not worth it!!
It looks like i am sticking with the incredible! :D

Not likely. The 2.2 update is ready for the Galaxy S line and each carrier is running it through tests. It would be pointless not to update it.

The Nexus S having 2.3 has no bearing on the Fascinate or any other Galaxy S device getting 2.3, as it's vanilla. Samsung has to build Touchwiz into it, as they did with 2.1 and 2.2.

Just another nail in the coffin. The idea of getting a fascinate was very short-lived!:D

It did not take much research to learn the incredible is far superior!!

(IMHO of course!)
