I like sense, but I also like Launcher Pro. I have not had any problems with the GPS. In fact, I just got back from spending four days in Seattle and used the GPS EVERYWHERE we went, even while walking downtown around the fish market. The walking navigation was pretty neat. Even after all day with GPS I still had a ton of battery life at the end of the day. I even used it on the plane to watch some tv shows for a few hours and still had plenty of battery.

I didn't have any problems rooting it, just used the sdk. The main reason I rooted was to get rid of all the bloatware and wanted wireless tether. And I also put Google as the stock search provider. I have been enjoying this phone.

Yeah thats what I want to do. I dont need useless crap all over my phone (I have an LG Dare now...I know how it is) and I think Google is far better than Bing. But what exactly is a SDK? How do I do something like this? Im litterally computer stupid...trust me :p I guess I have a little more thinking to do. Im still vastly torn between the two. The biggest set back with the Inc is the camera. And from what Ive seen from the Fascinate, its FAR better. Even with less resolution.

I would say that both camera's take great pictures. I haven't tried HD video on my wife's incredible, but it looks good on my fascinate. SDK is just the tools that you use to root the phone. There really isn't a whole lot of effort to do it, just follow the instructions and cut and paste the commands.

Yeah ive seen video of both and I think the Fascinate has MUCH better noise cancleation. See I would be golden if the Inc's UI and design fused with the Fascinate's screen, and made love to the Droid X's Camera (The best on the market for video it seems) and had some awesome phone child. I know that was one hell of an odd analogy but yeah, that would be the PERFECT phone for me right now. Its sooooooo tough choosing ha ha.

U left out the speaker on the EVO...lol

I chose the SF because of the two important things for me:

Battery life
Screen in the sun

Bing? => Can convert to google with some work... not a prob
GPS? => sometimes bad, sometimes good, but I could just use a regular GPS unit in my car

Hey everyone, been looking at whats available for Verizon for smartphones, felt like the droid x is too big, droid 2 is too heavy and want to get one that doesn't have a slideout keyboard,

the two that i am torn between are the incredible and fascinate. the only thing that freaks me out is the comments about battery life on the incredible. although that seems to be easily remedied with an extended battery. however the phone gets much bulkier after that.

for now i have no plans to root my phone as i am a newbie and don't feel like messing my phone up somehow.

any feedback/thoughts from members here?

If you have no plans to root I would lean to the samsung. From my limited time with it I really liked the screen.

I get good battery life on my incredible with the stock battery, so I would worry too much about that.

I have both he Fascinate and the Incredible. Both great phones, but the Fascinate is better IMO: 4" Super AMOLED screen, better battery life, Better processor and thinner profile. The Inc is better out of the box, with HTC Sense, but after downloading Launcher Pro, Beautiful Widgets and Hancent, now the Fascinate is much better than the Inc, IMO. You just need to ditch TouchWiz on the Fascinate straight away. It's jerky and has no useful widgets.

thx man, does launcher pro require rooting?

No, none of the programs I listed require rooting, but the full version of Launcher Pro will cost you a couple of bucks.

sounds good, thanks again. after doing quick reading on the launcherpro, it sounds like it adds one feature i really liked about the incredible, being able to pinch the home screen to see all the home pages i have created. didn't seem like fascinate did this out of the box.

If you plan on keeping things stock (plus launcher pro) and want slightly better battery: Fascinate

If you plan on rooting/hacking/modding/customizing/etc with somewhat worse battery: Incredible

Both are really good phones, so you can't go wrong either way.

I'd go with the DInc, unless you like a phone with all of the Bing applications installed over the Google software. Want Google maps? Too bad... you get Verizon Navigator... How about Google search? Nope... Bing search... ect, ect, ect. This stuff is stuck on your phone unless you root. There is nothing "Google" about this phone.

Inc is easier to hold, looks better, has dual camera flash, Froyo, same guts (people say one is faster than the other, but you will never notice the difference unless you love running pointless geek benchmarks), and you have the option to fully customize it when you get the urge to. You might not want to root now, but when you read about how easy/safe it is to do nowadays, you'll want to get into it. I went through the same thing. Not to mention the Fascinate has a broken GPS, no apps to SD (this is a killer since it only has 2gb of internal storage compared to the DInc's 8gb), and no voice dial over bluetooth.

The Incredible is still the best Verizon phone on the market. I'm running my stock battery and it easily lasts me the whole day with heavy usage.

I have google maps on my Fascinate, all you have to do is download it from the marketplace. Bing search can also be replaced but it is a little involved. A froyo leak has been found for the Fascinate, so it's coming. Benchmarks are crap, I don't use them.

Well he pretty much asked which is best out of the box. The DInc is best out of the box AND rooted. He'll have to root his Fasc just to get rid of the crap bloatware that kills the phone. Launcher Pro is great for both phones. I use it on my DInc and will never go back.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Incredible. The screen is just a bit too narrow for my tastes and the AMOLED screen just isn't as good as the Super AMOLED on the Fascinate (especially outdoors in the sunlight). If I could get both phones joined into one, I would be elated. There are def a few hurdles to jump on the Fascinate, but there were many issues and still are on the Incredible as well (horrible battery life, choppy HD 720p video and so-so still photos are on the shortlist). Muddy call quality is also a problem on the incredible. Pick the one you can live with I guess. No phone is perfect.

in what way does bloatware kill the phone?

Bloatware just takes up valuable space is all. A couple of issues I just thought of: The Incredible spell correction is much better than the Fascinate, but the Fascinate comes preinstalled with Swype, so it all depends on what you rather. Hard to choose which I like better.

its a tough choice, reading endless reviews and i can convince myself that either one is the way to go. i sort of liked the smaller size of the Inc and wasnt a fan of how easily the back of the fascinate got finger prints all over it.

I have a dinc and my wife has the fascinate. We both love our phones. But she doesn't care about having Google nav and google search and I do. I have to admit her screen has better resolution than mine.

i use a Tomtom for nav and if i bookmark Google for search than problem solved for me right?

You can download google nav in the marketplace. The only real hurdle is Bing for the embedded search function.

If you like the smaller form factor of the Incredible, then I think you have your answer.

I just realized that the horrible spell correction was on the swype keyboard on the Fascinate. Once I switched to the stock Android keyboard in settings, all is good again!!

I got the Incredible and have been using it for about a week. I saw the samsung fascinate in the verizon store and the screen and colors pictures and videos all seemed more vibrant and clearer than on the incredible. Now I'm wondering if I should exchange my htc for the samsung. I took a picture with the samsung's 5 Meg pixel camera and it seemed to look better than the same picture on took on my 8 meg pixel htc. Could that even be possible? Even the video I shot looked better on the samsung.
