Well , I just switched over to the Dinc, I've had it for about 2 weeks now, it takes a little getting use to coming from the Iphone. My question is , I have the opportunity to switch to the Galaxy on the buy 1 get 1 free special since I'm in the 30 day window, I like the price but is it a better selection ?

THX for the input.

See I would get the Galaxy S with BOGO with the shortcomings but it doesnt make sense to me. What do I need ANOTHER phone for. My dad has a Droid X and Im getting a new smartphone, not really any need to get a second one. And im totally not into selling one online, that never worked for me. ESPECIALLY electronics.

"The new Samsung Fascinate, a Goggle Android device without that annoying Google experience"

I can't believe that google is getting squeezed out of it's own OS.

I can believe microsoft will spend big bucks to co-opt android. Their own devices are crap so bribe manufacturers to use there brand/services.

Which is why the fascinate holds no appeal to me, pretty unbelievable though your right

lol, +1

I have been thinking about this move after my INc started force closing everything on boot.

I still love the phone, so I guess I'll still Incredible for now.

Really, are you frigging serious?
Downloading the Google maps app is too hard?? Or changing the browser homepage ??

You can download google maps. But when you use voice commands and say "Navigate to ..." by default it uses VZ Navigator, a paid service, and that cannot be changed without root currently. You'd have to open google maps and then navigate. Maybe not a big deal to some but it makes it a little more cumbersome than it is on other android phones.

As far as changing the browser homepage, again that cannot be done with out root currently. Verizon has even admitted that the browser default to Bing cannot be changed (you will be able to after froyo hits the device, but who knows when that will happen). The same thing when you use the search widget, it defaults to Bing. I have heard you can place a shortcut on the homescreen for google.com, or bookmark it and then navigate to it after you open the browser, but again they took something simple and made it not so much so.

What kills me is not allowing you to use google on a google OS. I could see putting Bing on as a preinstalled app, letting you set it as default if you want to. But doing what they did is like buying a chevy and finding out it's got a ford motor. Some people might not mind that, but for some (most?) it probably won't sit well with them. I don't recall seeing that Bing was mandatory in their early sales literature, so there were probably a few early adopters who got an unwelcome surprise. Not a good move if that soured them on samsung products.

I got the Fascinate the first day it was out. I had the Inc for several months before hand. The Fascinate home page can be set to Google as default. Once you do that and hit the browser widget, it goes striaght to Google. I did this the first day I got it. Voice Nav does not go to VZ nav. When you say "Navigate" it goes straight to navigation, not VZ. The Fascinate is an AWESOME device. I really did love the Inc, just to many issues after 2.2. My wife still has her Inc until October. She wants the Fascinate now.

The info I posted was going off of a review Engadget did on the Fascinate
Samsung Fascinate review -- Engadget

and a story BGR did about the 2.2 update unlocking the ability to change the default search to Google
Google Search coming to Samsung Fascinate with Android 2.2 update, Bing not replaceable Boy Genius Report

I do not have a Fascinate but, just like people looking at getting an as yet unreleased phone, I went by what they posted. The stuff about Google/VZ Navigator is in the software section of the review. Sorry if what they posted is incorrect. Guess you can't trust any of these news sites anymore!

I've had my Inc since day 1. I played with the Fascinate yesterday. I think it's a great phone, but it doesn't compete with HTC. I like the look of the HTC browser better. Home Screen interface on Inc felt snappier. The overall look of the phone is unappealing. The touch buttons on the bottom remind me of an old electric sign you see in the store windows that say "OPEN".

I'm on my Inc alot so these observations are very miniscule. I give alot of props to Samsung for making a dent in the market.

HTC>>Samsung and Motorola

Yes i am 'frigging' serious, not about being to hard, it's the principle of the situation. Its alot dealing with the Vzw bloatware as is, now i have bloatware that takes over for the google services that i love?? All opinion of course but those are MY reasons.

Plus if you use voice search is it google voice search?? Or bing? (not just asking to navigate)

Welcome to Open Source people, it's the nature of the freedom of getting the OS for free. MFGs can do pretty much what they want to it.

For me, I'm loving my Incredible. I will be upgrading in a year to whatever superphone H.T.C. has on Verizon. Nothing before then will make me change.

Fully agreeing with this. I'm still waiting to see what that rumored phone from HTC is with the slider chiclet keyboard. Sexy sexy.

I have the fascinate (rooted) and my wife has the incredible (unrooted). I am a huge fan of sense, but then I started using Launcher Pro on my eris (rooted) and now use it on my fascinate, so it is not that big of a miss. I'd say speed wise they are the same. I do dig the amoled screen, especially outside in the sunlight. And I have to say the battery life is freakin amazing. I would consider myself a more intense user and the battery could easily go into the next day without a charge.

Now I do have the distinct feeling that my wife will want to swap phones because of the fascinates battery life, and I won't object because I am a huge fan of the incredible. She isn't one to manage the phone to maximize the battery life. And if she does want to swap it will be rooted immediately.

Im still heavily debating this in my head. I REALLY like the Incredible for its UI and looks, but at the same time the Fascinate has one HELL of a nice screen, the camera/video seems a little better and is newer, so it may not be phased out as quick as the incredible.

Now if I could just get the Fascinate to run Sense and have a decent GPS, I would be set. What exactly can you do with a rooted Fascinate? Will it improve the GPS? Can I change the UI? Is it hard to even root these things? Is it possible to do on a Mac?

I like sense, but I also like Launcher Pro. I have not had any problems with the GPS. In fact, I just got back from spending four days in Seattle and used the GPS EVERYWHERE we went, even while walking downtown around the fish market. The walking navigation was pretty neat. Even after all day with GPS I still had a ton of battery life at the end of the day. I even used it on the plane to watch some tv shows for a few hours and still had plenty of battery.

I didn't have any problems rooting it, just used the sdk. The main reason I rooted was to get rid of all the bloatware and wanted wireless tether. And I also put Google as the stock search provider. I have been enjoying this phone.
