Help Fastboot issue LG G2 D800

James L

Android Expert
Ok as most of us know, typing in fastboot devices should return with the serial number.

Example, fastboot 1234567

This G2 that has been brought to my attention says " fastboot ?"
The person stated they flashed the wrong recovery. I'm familiar with flashing the bootstack to re-enable download mode to flash a Kdz & or Tot.

Looking for opinions on if this will work still, currently waiting on the files to download so i can extract them and try flashing them.

Thank you
James

Edit: Figured it out.

Let me give the long version of things. The client flashed a d802 recovery on a d800, it left him in fastboot mode no recovery. So i flashed the d800 bootstack without issues. This restored download mode.
Than when i flashed the tot file it errored wrong model number it shows as a d802, the device is actually a d800.

I found this post
http://androidforums.com/threads/fl...ode-fixed-thanks-to-iowabowtech.922297/page-2

I'm unsure on which hex editor to use at the moment

On a side note the kdz method used to be a pain, but the lg flash tool 2014 made it a breeze. It seems like bricked LG devices are popular lately. The one i used a Kdz on was a LG G pad 8.3

Updating post as @iowabowtech has added further insight :)

I'm unsure on which hex editor to use at the moment so i'm going to flash a d802 tot file and hope it works.

It will likely work but it's not a very pretty outcome. The screen will most likely become mostly unresponsive to touches.

Somewhere in the land of the LG G2 root forum here, I have a post buried inside a thread that has a pre-hexedited tot for a D800 which was flashed with D802 firmware, along with an alternate DLL you can use to avoid the cross dll error in LG Flash Tools. I can try to dig it up if you want it. The only negative about that tot is that it's an older JB tot and many people who find themselves in this situation are those who've been sold a "D802" containing a D800 board so in other words, they are international, not ATT customers and therefore won't get OTA updates once on D800 firmware.

Since the time I made that tot however, I was able to locate a KK D800 tot so at least it's somewhat newer and can be rooted, add custom recovery and flash LP roms if desired.

Thanks for the reply i was hoping you would be able to provide insight. All i have done so far is flashed the D800 bootstack and tried the D800 tot file. The D800 tot file failed it said wrong model number and flash tool listed it as a D802.

This client pops in and out, so i haven't seen him since i started the d802 tot/kdz download.
He showed me a folder last sitting, i'm not sure what to think of it still as it had twrp for a D802.
And a convert AT&T G2 to a T-mobile G2. Not sure what he was attempting to do... I did see a custom rom file as well but i'm unsure which one it was.

Many thanks!

If fastboot flashing the D800 bootstack resulted in a working download mode, then you can pretty much say he's running a D800 board.

Evidently somewhere along the line, I must have decided to finally upload a pre-edited 20c tot (D800 Kitkat) so here you go, no hexeditor necessary:

Using that, you will bypass the "wrong model" error. However, you'll get a "cross dll" error next if using the standard LGUP dll for the D800. To bypass that situation, use the following dll in LG Flash Tools instead:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ar4ajjrn1n3f1ia/LGUP_8974_Ncrypt3d.dll?dl=0

Should go off without a hitch landing the user on D800 20c KitKat with the option to stay there and be safe or root, recovery, rom. Don't forget to recommend that if he chooses the latter, be damn sure to flash the D800 TWRP. The phone should be treated in every way as a D800 from here until the day it lands in the kitchen drawer alongside the old Blackberry Curve and Motorola Razr (non smartphone edition). :D

I flashed the tot and used the dll you linked me to. I got the cross dll error though and it says failed. It failed it shows after 1 second.

If that still does not work, I'd stop right there and get the rear cover off that phone to verify the board. Removing SIM card/tray with the phone off gives an easier place to start. Use a guitar pick, plastic disposable knife, etc to get a small section the the rear cover pryed up at that location, then slide it around the edge to get the cover off. Its really quite easy. Then take a pic of the internals and post here or message me the pic.
