Prl's are basically a list of cellphone towers the phone uses to determine what to connect to, and all the info the phone needs to connect to them. If you have an old prl, and they build a new tower, then your phone may not recognize it. Boost phones can use prl's from sprint phones and maybe have better sprint tower reception, but boost phones do not have roaming, and can't use verizon or any other towers.

Unfortunately for me, i live at the very edge of the nearest sprint tower's range, so i get spotty reception at my house on any prl i've tried.

Different Prls means different service strength so which prl gives you the better service strength will give you the faster speeds. Thats if the prl is a 3G prl

What is a PRL?

I don't know about speed but I can tell a difference in signal strength since switching mine the other day. My signal increased the equivalent one 1 bar. It went from 91dbm's to 86dbm's and has been holding steady since changing it a couple of days ago.

Usually you will see better speed when the signal is stronger but I haven't tested it yet.

You should try a bunch of PRLs to see which ones work best for you. Lol with 11119 I got 8 kbps download at best.

Hey guys, just found out from my Dad that his Sprint phone is using 60686 for a PRL, so I guess that may be the latest one that some Sprint phones are using right now, he has a Samsung Epic 4G Touch AKA Samsung Galaxy S2...

Yes sir that's the one I am currently using. Consistent 756 kbps download

I've found that there is no exact fast PRL. Some PRL's work better for some people then others. A prl you might find slow is actually extremely fast for someone else. You have to try a variety of updates to find the one that works best with you. You can find a few here:

This thread about PRL's may help you too. WetBiker posted one of the latest PRL as well in this thread.

Ya prl performance is really just a result of location. I certainly wish so many people didn't have as many problems changing PRLs, they'd probably be a whole lot happier

I've found that none of the other PRLs give me anything but trouble. I cannot get any data output. I just stick to the default Boost PRL. 61007.

I tried the 11119 PRL Wetbiker suggested. Intermittent data and cannot make phone calls!

I've been using it since I posted and haven't had and issue once. Must just be location. I'm still getting 86-91dbm's too. Don't know if it has anything to do with it or not but I'm running CM7. That should not make a difference but I just thought I'd post anyways. Ya never know.:D

Wow I though the signal strength was just me and a few others.
but this -80 to -100 sucks.
I posted about my customer service call with boost today.
They updated me from 61007 to 61008 and now Im stuck at 1xRTT 2.5G
I understand what to do to get 61007 back on but that one was just as screwed.....

Any suggestions besides what I have read the last week or so.
I have a bunch of sprint PRL's but 01115 and 01119 didnt work out so well. 60686 and 60683(i think 3 dont quote me im working now) didnt work at all.

Hmmmmm, here's one for ya. I switched to the new PRL, 12120. I heard a few people talking about how well that it was working for them. I switched and used it for 1 day. I was having drastic signal fluctuation while in the city and I ended up switching back to 11119 and all is well again. Just goes to show that some work better for others.

So several months ago, I effortlessly changed my prl with a previous release of CDMA workshop. It was loaded onto another laptop of mine, so of course that demo has expired. So I downloaded the newest release to my current laptop and am able to run the script to put it in dm mode (running CTMod 3.5, with ext-data) I connect to the phone via com3, and even can unlock it with the default Samsung password. But when I try to write the prl... nothing. Just an error message that the prl cannot be written to nam1. My demo runs out fairly soon... any ideas would be very much appreciated.

do you have the box checked---- send spc at first reading?

before you click the read button

running as administrator?

First the code is device specific (MSL)
You can get that from Boost if you call.
There are stories here explaining what they went through to get them to give the MSL.

Mine happens to be signal problems and no other phone to call them with.
They will give you the instructions and your MSL over the phone.(if not call back in 20 min)

Do not get angry with them, they log everything and will not service you properly 20 minutes later.

You also might want to make sure you have debugging enabled!
Goto system settings-applications-developement and check the USB debugging option.

There are also other ways of getting your MSL

This is by far the easiest and you already have custom rom
Code:
Terminal Emulator.

And Type in "su" (for super user access)
And then type "getprop ril.MSL" (then enter to get you Device's MSL code)

This is not my work, original post is HERE

Thanks for the reply - but since I am on a custom rom, the msl wouldn't benefit me... I have odin'd back to stock and tried to change my prl, but got the same negative results... which lead me to think that maybe it's my device...
