Fatality: 2021

Melvin Van Peebles, considered by many to be the godfather of modern black cinema, has died at 89.

RIP, Mr. Van Peebles, and thanks for your groundbreaking work in cinema and the doors you opened for countless others.

Actor Willie Garson, likely best known for his role on the "Sex and the City" series and films, has died at 57. No cause of death was given.

As one of the eleven people on the planet who never saw any episode or movie of “Sex and the City,” I rather remember him from some earlier work in miscellaneous TV shows.

RIP, Mr. Garson, and thanks for entertaining so many during your career.

Mr. Garson died of pancreatic cancer. :( Ugh. Too young…

I didn't know of Norm MacDonald, but You Tube offered me the audio tribute by Conan O'Brien, and I later saw many TV clips of his on various shows, including the mentioned additional unprepared 7 minutes he suddenly had to fill on Conan, after the ad break, with a 20 second Moth joke.
Very good.

I think the Moth joke is quite possibly the greatest joke told on TV.

VHS copies were fairly cheap and we purchased most all of those Disney films he was in for my last two children. Easily 30 years after their release, they still proved to be entertaining to my youngest crew. Even their friends would come over and watch them. They were wholesome entertainment for that age group.

What is this “VHS” thing of which you speak? ;) :D

Somewhere in storage I have at least a hundred tapes, and while I have a VCR, the resolution really suffers with modern HD televisions.

I think the last VHS tape I bought was an old Disney film, “Charlie the Lonesome Cougar.” I bought that probably around 1999 in Colorado. It’s one of many Disney produced with the venerable Rex Allen narrating. I’m going to guess you’re familiar with those, too. ;)

I have a functional VHS player... maybe two. I still have quite a few VHS home movies.. mostly my kids playing sports and Christmas vids. I should transfer them or have them transferred to DVD. I have two of the largest totes.. the ones with wheels on one end and a handle on the other stuffed with all of the other VHS tapes in storage. They might have some value but I'm betting not. The storage is not climate controlled so they are all likely trashed. In those totes is likely the largest Disney collection on VHS :) As I said before, I'm sure I have every Disney flick Tommy Kirk was in.

Alan Kalter, best known as David Letterman’s announcer, has died at 78. No cause of death was given.

RIP, Mr. Kalter, and thanks for sharing that voice and wit for a good long while.

Cancer has claimed the excellent character actor Peter Scolari at age 66. Perhaps best known either from Bosom Buddies (with Tom Hanks) or Newhart, he was a talented and prolific actor.

RIP, Mr. Scolari, and thanks for sharing your talents to entertain so many. Condolences to your family, friends and loved ones.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot with a prop gun while filming on the set of “Rust” by Alec Baldwin. She died a short while later at 42.

RIP, Ms. Hutchins, with deep condolences to your family, friends, fans and loved ones.
