Fatality: 2021

Larry Flynt, who made headlines with his porn magazine, Hustler, has died at 78.

I'm no prude, but porn really isn't my thing. However, I admired Flynt for his outspoken attacks on people he viewed as hypocrites. And his building on Wilshire Boulevard is beautiful! I'd driven past it many times, but took pics from across the street, while waiting to be let in at a Hillary Clinton fundraising event.

RIP, Larry. Your outspoken beliefs and your fight for first amendment rights were awesome, and I know you made many people happy with your other endeavors.

Vincent Jackson, former NFL wide receiver, was found dead Monday in a Florida hotel room. There were no signs of foul play and a cause of death has not been determined. Mr. Jackson was just 38.

RIP, Mr. Jackson, and thanks for being a fan favorite.

“Marvelous” Marvin Hagler has permanently left the ring at 66. His wife said it was “unexpected” and no cause of death was given.

I’ve never been a fan of fighting, but I know it takes a lot of courage, strength and skill, and no matter how good you are, it takes a toll in many ways.

RIP, Marvin, and thanks for thrilling those who are fight fans. Condolences to your friends, fans and loved ones.

I hope no one objects: one of my cats died this morning. :( Long story; the short version is that she was one of two feral littermates I trapped/tricked 12 years ago, and have lived happily indoors as house-cats ever since. Everything happened really quickly...and my vet put her down a little while ago. My helper, who lives here and works there, was with her. RIP, Valentino...

^^^ My sympathies, Moody. My sister's family just lost their little kitty they rescued from the streets several years ago. It's amazing how such a (physically) small thing can leave such a huge hole. The hardest thing we may have to do when we're owned by a dear furriend is to help them leave this life. :( Hugs and prayers to you.

Elgin Baylor, a guy who left college early (long before it was fashionable) to join the Lakers and became legendary for himself and the club, has died from natural causes at 86.

RIP, Mr. Baylor, and thanks for thrilling so many fans by sharing your amazing talents.

Versatile actor George Segal has died from complications related to bypass surgery. He was 87.

RIP, Mr. Segal, and thanks for entertaining so many.

Houston Tumlin, who starred as a child actor 15 years ago in 'Talladega Nights,' has committed suicide. He was only 28.

RIP, Mr. Tumlin, and I’m sorry for all your pain. Condolences to your loved ones, who will be especially grieved by your decision.

Coincidentally, just a few minutes ago I received this text from my carrier:

I hope that it will help immensely because of all the bad decisions one can make in life, suicide is the worst. And it’s the one bad decision from which you can never, ever have any chance of recovering. Those you leave behind will be devastated and may carry awful feelings of guilt for a long time, perhaps to their own grave.

Please, reach out, don’t check out.
