I have been reading this thread for months and this is my first entry here.

Some Apps that everyone mentions I will leave off my list (like LauncherPro) but I will mention an App or two that were getting big props earlier in this thread and not getting mentioned much lately.

App Brain-- I know it sounds weird if you don't use Appbrain, or like an extra step to use an App to access the market, but Appbrain makes the whole market experience much more satisfying and much cleaner. Use Appbrain in conjunction with....

Fast Web Installer-- This automatically installs any apps you select on Appbrain (from your computer usually) right to your phone. Unbelievably more convenient.

Wifi File Explorer: I can upload/download files from my PC to my SD card through my router and manage all the files on my SD card without touching my phone or a USB cable.

GOTO Lockscreen-- It is a custom lockscreen that looks really cool and provides a nifty one touch to navigate to email, phone, SMS, or Home. Earlier versions of it would side-step your security lock pattern but that is fixed in current versions. It is surprisingly cool. There is no free version of this but read my note at the bottom of this post.... (*)

Shake2Mute-- With the paid "donate" version of this program you can use the shake motion of your phone to answer the phone rather than mute it. In bright sunlight or when driving or other situations I like to be able to shake my phone to answer rather than look for the slider (it allows either operation).

Unified Remote-- This has several remote control functions for your PC included in it. You can do mouse and keyboard functions from across the room, or control various media players from anywhere you and your PC are connected to the same wifi router. It also has an included Spotify remote and some others that I cannot recall off the top of my head.

SDMove-- handy, simple App that figures out what Apps can be moved to SD card rather than hogging on-board memory. Is handy for shuffling Apps back and forth from the SD card with total ease. Shows Apps that should not be moved in Red.

Wifi Analyzer-- Simple program that graphically shows all the wifi signals near you, what channel, what signal strength etc... Very nice for figuring out if your neighbor's router is screwing with your signal.

Talk to Me-- a nice App to translate text messages or emails into other languages. Crazy to translate a text message into Arabic and it actually writes Arabic characters into your text message. I was pretty surprised by that.

I am testing some other Apps to find some other real winners (AppBrain is especially helpful for this).

*** Note: if you are not aware of it ALL paid Apps in the market can be purchased and then, if you are not satisfied, you will be AUTOMATICALLY refunded if you uninstall within 24 hours of your purchase.

Cheers all

Now THAT I didn't know - can't believe they don't shout more about that!

Games

Falling Ball

Those are just the apps I use regularly. Layar, Google Goggles and a few others are cool too, I just don't use them that often.

So my droid committed suicide and I just got the new one in the mail today.

I can't for the life of me remember the app/widget name so I thought I'd come ask!

It was a widget that allowed all in one, one touch control for Bluetooth/GPS/WIFI/and Screen Brightness. It was a 4x1 bar. If any one could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

The best android app would be EasyMoney!!! Helps me to do multiple accounts tracking, manage my budget and reminds me about all my bills. ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH IT!

any app to costumize top bar? ie: change/remove battery icon?
thanks

I second this question/request.

The top bar on my Captivate is so crowded with stuff that's visibile elsewhere on my device (and in easier-to-view shapes and sizes, places, etc.) than the tiny top bar.

To take it a step further, the only things I need on that bar are my signal strength, 3g transmission, Weatherbug temp and variable email/text notificiations.

Is there an existing way to modify this bar or might there be someone out there working on an app to allow for such modification??
