I have found that the sound quality of this phone to be better than any other that I've owned. It's so good that I've made it my preferred media player, retiring both my Cowen and Creative. I've installed a 64 gig card and I have a bunch of headphones but for most music I find that I am really liking my new Monster Tours, for plane flights I have a pair of Pioneer active noise cancellation and for subtle tunes with high dynamic range I go to my trusty 5 year old Sennheisers. I was very surprised that the Tours have become my preferred daily use having taken over from my Klipsch S4I's. Which do you prefer and what type of music do you use them for?

This phone isn't that loud on speaker but I use Philips in ear headphones and they sound nice like skullcandies except they won't give an earache lol I listen to deadmau5 daft punk etc. And rock :)

I forgot to mention that when I'm really in a head banging mood I just break out the Fiio E6 headphone preamp, btw I'm 53 but still like it LOUD.

I use Skullcandy earbuds when i'm out and about and Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 OHM headphones when I'm at home. I really need to invest in a headphone amp.

Head on over to head-fi.org and they were quite impressed with the Fiio E6 for under $25 or so. A nice way to ease into a very expensive and slippery slope. That's why I'm hoping to try getting audio otg on this phone so I could give something like the Fiio E11 DAC a try. :D

The phone couldn't drive my 40ohm A900's, so, I just use my mp3 player. Plus, the grounds suck on the phone/my cheap headphones.

i used the sennheiser hd 600s with the evo v; i was impressed at how well they were driven. compared to the optimus v this "player" is worlds ahead. audio technicas are fairly easy to drive. My A700 sounded fine, thats a puzzle....

its phones like this and apps like power amp that make me wish i had more iems with mics. i have the brookstone ddms and thermaltake Isurus both decent with mics, others without that are noteable is the sony ex700 (real ones, not the ebay fakes) Oyerbyter is right about headfi. its is a great place to get info on ear candy, sorry 'bout your wallet ;)

Two solutions that I use for turning my items into a hands free device are the Samsung HS 3000 which is a small Bluetooth adapter that allows you to use any wired headphones as a wireless headset, sound quality is actually quite good, it even supports the apt-X codec which unfortunately our phones don't and it also has Android usable transport controls. For those who frown on using high end headphones over Bluetooth, Monster makes a wired adapter called the Sonitalk which again allows you to connect your favorite headphones into a wired headset. I much prefer these kinds of solutions because of the range of headphones that I can now use with my phone as a headset. Instead of the mostly mediocre offerings now you can turn your whole collection of high end equipment into an excellent sounding hands free device.

I had a pair of Klipsch Image S4's and they sounded great. Too bad they were poorly constructed as they only lasted me for four months from the cord breaking inside. I'm still a little mad about that.

Now I'm using a pair of Skullcandy 2XL's that I bought at Walgreens. It took a while to adjust the EQ in DSP Manager in order to get them to sound right, but I managed.

Been using S4As for about 6 months and I can't ask much more out of them (I want the new model though). Last week I found Skullcandy Aviators at Goodwill for 70 bucks (open box return from Target) and I couldn't possibly pass them up. They're really good if not a bit lacking for bass on rap and hip-hop.

Those Dr. Dre headphones are pretty badass. They have them at Best Buy where I work. The only thing bad about them is the price. For now I will stick with mt Sony MDRs.

The price is actually in line with most top manufacturers midrange products, leaving sound quality aside because that's a personal issue, their build quality is often lacking at this price point. I own a set of tours and I'm very careful with them.

Beats by Dre are definitely good headphones for the average consumer, but I'll stick to my studio headphones. Beats are more of a fashion statement than the ultimate listening experience.

Agreed, however I tend to prefer them for modern rock and alternative. They definitely bring out the punch where there aren't really any underlying subtleties.

Try the Aviators. At first you'll think they're harsh coming from Beats, but once you get over that you'll see how much better they are for rock. Beats, in my opinion, are in the same league as Apple products: pretty looking, and... that's it...

They're good for rap and Dubstep. Any other music and there's NO midrange.

Yup. Ignore the Skullcandy name and logos and give them a fair shake.

Beats just make loose bits in my head rattle. I get enough of that from the sub in my car.

Do they need a headphone amp like a Fiio E6 to drive them with the phone?

I've never used a headphone amp so it would be hard for me to answer that, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. They sound better on my PC than my Evo, for sure.

Klipsch Image S4A are my other gamers, as I said earlier, if you're looking for in ear. Hard to beat them for $100 (maybe less on eBay).
