FCC Docs and Pics are out

One of the reasons it took so long to release the Bionic is that Motorola developed their own LTE chipset to work with their phones.

They did this mainly so they could lease it to the other manufacturers.

Or maybe they believed their in-house solution would be better (cheaper, more reliable, lower power, whatever) than anything available in the market.

Do we know this is a 45nm Lte chip or could it be a 28nm 2nd generation chip?

I've never needed a smaller, thinner, lighter phone. Some people are all about that, fine, whatever suits ya. My OG has been a tank and the proposition of another certainly doesn't turn me off. I've done enough 12oz curls in my day to hoist this beast.

45nm vs 28nm is what Qualcomm is doing. No idea what's Motorola's roadmap or capabilities. It's definitely their first gen...

Within todays standards, I don't think there is anything that could be too thick or too heavy, but too wide or tall is a possibility (for me). If I thought for a minute that the Bionic had a 4.5" screen, I would already have a Droid 3. If anyone tells me my OG Droid is heavy, I tell them they need to spend more time in the gym.

I don't think there's any chance it's the 28nm chip. Qualcomm is coming out with the Krait Snapdragon later this year, which is (I believe) the first 28nm chipset. It's going to be thinner, use less battery, and overall it will be quite sweet. It's supposed to outscore NVIDIA's Kal-El quad-core chipsets coming out later, but who knows.

I think at some point, we will look down at our Bionics and sigh wistfully, thinking "If I'd only waited a little longer."

But that happens to everybody, no matter what phone you get. Once I get the stupid thing, no more forums for me except those that strictly talk about rooting the Bionic.

All a matter of personal preference.

I've decided my next device will be both thinner and lighter than my OG Droid. After playing with a few other devices which were just that, I've decided I prefer that form.

Funny enough, the D3 and Bionic are the first phones in 2 years to make me WANT something other than my OG Droid.

My OG Droid has served me well and has been kickass at everything it has done since the day I picked it up from Verizon.

I know there will be a next best phone coming out, but one thing I learned from being a PC gamer for most of my young life is that if you are always reading the reviews and wishing for the next best thing you will go crazy.

There comes a point that one must be happy with their current lot in life, or else you will be that crazy guy sitting on the side of the road with 5 phones talking to yourself.

I prefer the heavier feel of my OG Droid to the iPhones etc...

It makes me feel like I actually purchased something that will last (and trust me it has haha).

Good points. I guess I just meant "everyone" who lurks on forums constantly. Once I got my OG Droid, I only went on the forum here that specifically talked about ROMS for it, and then after a while I stopped even doing that. I never really heard of any other phones until last month when I became upgrade eligible, walked into the store, and picked the biggest screen they had (X2). Before that, I never gave it a second thought. Although I will admit that when my wife got her iPhone in February, I was a tiny bit jealous, until she had me load crap on it with iTunes. Then I was reminded of how much I hate Apple products.

But the funny thing is, I haven't been waiting for the Bionic since last January. I'd never even heard of it until I came on these forums for info on the DX2!

So while I really seem to be desperate and pissed at Moto, I only became aware of the Bionic a few weeks ago. But seeing everyone else's distress has made me pissed. I'm compassionate like that.

As long as it's thinner than the OG DROID ... then I'm a happy camper.

Agreed, but it wont be a dealbreaker if it isn't, either. I don't want a credit card- thin phone, I want something with a little heft to it. Im a big man with big hands, and my og droid fits just about perfect. Anything much thinner is going to be uncomfortable.

However, with my droid's touchscreen getting to the point where it only works half the time, I'm not really gonna play the pick-and-choose game too terribly much. I think I will be able to put up with my phone's lack of fuctionality half the time, about as long as it takes to see the bionic go live.

@bluefire- I got a 4th gen ipod touch last fall (i think? lol) and to be honest, you just cant beat that retina display. itunes, well... I just look at it as the loss of my soul due to the deal I made with the devil.

I.HATE.ITUNES!!!

I refuse to own an Apple product due to that pile of junk of a program they have...

Also, on a side note beyond the whole phone thing, I cannot think of a single program that has done more shit to **** up my computers than iTunes!!!

I hate that program with a passion, and I also hate Steve Jobs for his imbecilic cracks of 'ITS REVOLUTIONARY' (even though its been out for months on a different device).

Plus, come on admit it, I can't be the only one who wants to take a pair of scissors and cut up his turtle necks am I?

Hey, hey, come on man, the guy's got cancer!

But yes, I hate iTunes. My wife occasionally wants me to load a few things on her iPad. I say sure. Then I go to load the same stuff on my iPod Touch (1st crappy gen) and find that my entire library has been erased for her 3 things.

I hate Apple.

Just cause someone has cancer doesn't give them a pass for the stupid shit they say and do.

It sucks that he has it, I feel bad that he has it, but I am not going to give him a pass for trying to pass all his crap off as revolutionary even though the 'revolutionary' advances have been on the market for months if not years.

Is the specs on both the SGS2 and the BIONIC the same? Is the screen the biggest diff?

Close enough. Except the SGSII will be sleeker and thinner, will have a clearer and more vibrant screen (plus a tad bigger), and won't have that super crappy, phone slowing Moto Blur garbage that you won't be able to get rid of until someone works around the locked bootloader and releases a clean, fast bare bones Android vanilla rom.

iTunes is fine for music, and no other program has as good of sync capabilities, not to mention so many people publish podcasts thesedays that you need it to get those anyway.

I wouldn't want to try to use it for something like contacts/photos though. UGH.

Where's an all in 1 solution that works on any device? I get tired of having to install software for each phone I have and then figure out how to make it compatable. At least with iTunes I can use something like iSyncr and import my music to my droid.

Right, but what is so hard about plugging in your phone and using it as a flash drive? It takes me no time at all to load my pictures and music onto my phone. When I do it on my wife's iPhone, I have to wait for the stupid program to get the ID3 tags right, and then I better hope I haven't deleted/moved any songs or pictures in the original folder in the computer because otherwise iTunes will give me that stupid "!" symbol and say "Oh no, oh no! I can't find that song that you had on here before, sorry!"

The only hassle I have with Android is general inability to play .avi files. I hate having to convert. Double twist is slow. Although I hear some player called Rock Star, or something like that, plays .avi files now, so I don't know. I'll have to check it out.

But simple plug-and-play is SO much easier that stupid idiot apple crap.

What about updates? I heard that Samsung don't get them in a timely manner

Hmm, that I have no idea about, having never owned a Samsung. But on my OG Droid, I disabled the update feature and just installed custom roms that implemented them as they came available. But that takes a lot more effort on your part.

So I really don't know. Maybe someone who's owned a charge or something can weigh in.

Charge is on 2.2.1 as of a few weeks ago, where my OG Droid has been on 2.2.2 forever. IIRC, Charge will go to 2.3, but I probably wouldn't hold my breath for it.
